He was very much a billy no mates. The CPVE group was quite a small group. I can remember a good lad from Paul Darbyshire's circle of Aspull mates, John? Well built lad, good egg.

I actually recall him causing an all out brawl one of the few times he played 1st team. The opposition had a hooker who was a very good player but only had one arm. At the first scrum ganson shouts come on lads get stuck into this hooker he is Harmless !!!! As you can imagine it kicked off big time and I don't remember ganson being anywhere near the fight. However you can't crucify someone for not being a good player just cause he became a ref. Take him as you find him, he coulde either be real entertainment value on a night out or a pain in the arse who found trouble and then couldn't sort it out. (trust me I know as i saved him a number of times from a beating)
At the end of the day he has made a career and to be fair he has got to the top from mediocre rugby ability. Fair play to him i say!!!!!!!
What the bleeding hell you doing saving this little git from a beating?Surely he deserves a beating just for being Ganson.
I played in the college Team with Ganson at Stand-off and me on the wing. He was a dirty sh*tstirring player and high tackled with impunity.
For what it's worth, his ability as a player has no bearing on his reffing ability. He's sh*te at both

John Ogden (Oggie) maybe? he was a big lad, came from Aspull and was a good friend of Paul's if I recall correctly
