I thought Leeds were very poor

I just hope we see more variety, more bold play in RL. There is a danger sometimes that completion, territory can become a war of attrition with a no risk strategy say when Wigan play Wire.

I believe you can have completion etc but still be bold and put on more varied plays. We beat Wire with Amos on fire, 3rd phase to a second man play and a chip kick. If anything Wire are even more conservative this season but there are still weak links in that defensive line most notably Briers and Myler, several of their noted forwards too but if you do not stretch them, target the weak links then hey they will kill you easily.

Watched Boots n All for the first time in years and Paul Cullen attempted to pull apart Leeds' deficiencies in the match. Whilst I am not arguing with what he was trying to say, I did note that the main reason the Leeds' moves broke down or they themselves were opened up was not from his opinions, but rather the old age adage of referees not applying the rules.

In the instances shown, wire markers were stood side by side (or third man not retreating) moving off the mark was also a notable instance for wire. They don't play to the rules, they play the rules as far as they can go (without having players binned or repeatedly penalised for doing so)

Leeds are in decline - and Brian McDermott has been shown up for the average coach that he is.

wire are playing well - however they do seem to flout a lot of the rules that other teams are regularly penalised for. Also they do seem mentally fragile especially in tight games against "lesser" teams; I wouldn't be surprised if they lost a game or 2 before the CC match with us

I agree Mathew could never understand Leeds signing McDermott and they are in decline, also they are trying too hard usually one pass too many which causes a lot of unforced errors, I am still very bemused as to why Burrow only played the last 10 mins!

McDermott IMO is an example of a media hyped coach not standing up to substance.

RE an earlier post; not standing square at marker is the best way to screw any opposition team up. Officvials/RFL should be far less concerned with wrestling and more with this tactic at marker.

True CP and to think they sent McClennan home a year early!

Im glad to be honest because Im not a fan of the Heatheringtons and its nice to see Leeds not getting there own way with the officials but still I would rather see good officiating.

Incidentally do you think we should go to the 2 ref system?

I think the 2 referee system works well now with a lead referee and a pocket referee rather than the constant chaging which they tried at first.

Wire use it both ways too Josie. In attack they move off the mark after being tackled to make the defenders look not square and to open up space for Monaghan.
