Obviously a bit of an anticlimax and we've all got carried away with the rumour mill on this one. I suppose it got a lot of people talking about the club last night at least - 'no publicity is bad publicity' or whatever it is they say.

Social media is totally awash with talk about a game that is over a month away. Plenty seeing the cleverness in that, plenty of fans of other clubs thinking it's funny whilst they do the job of our marketing department and do nothing but talk about our club and not their own. It's brilliant, haha. The odd overly passionate dullard is genuinely annoyed that it isn't a signing though. But they would probably be annoyed with whatever the signing might have been!

The Big One is Back

Wigan Warriors today revealed details of the highly anticipated BIG ONE 5 in style as Wigan Town Centre was covered in scarves when commuters arrived for work this morning.

First Team player Joe Burgess joined a local milkman on his round to give out some of the limited edition scarves ahead of the clash that will see Wigan face rivals Leeds Rhinos at the DW Stadium on Friday 5th September.

The Big One has attracted unprecedented coverage in its first four years and has cemented itself as a ‘must-see' event, not only in the Warriors Calendar but also the Rugby League Fixture List.

In a repeat of the original Big One Wigan will face Leeds as the pair jostle for position at the top of the First Utility Super League.

Warriors Head Coach Shaun Wane commented: "I'm really looking forward to the Big One 5 against Leeds Rhinos. The two sides have served up some classics over the years and this will be no different I'm sure.

"Leeds have been going well this year, they're right in the mix for the top spot and it's very tight up there at the minute. Both of us want to finish top of the ladder make no mistakes about that.

"The previous Big One events have been massive successes and players, staff and fans alike still talk about them. The effort that everyone at the Club puts into promoting the event demonstrates the scale of these games and I've no doubt that the Big One 5 could be the biggest yet!"

The Big One was first developed in 2009 when Leeds Rhinos visited the DW Stadium, a game that attracted a record 20,295 crowd and saw the Warriors run out 28-10 winners. The following year Warrington Wolves ran out 23-16 in a pulsating Big One 2 in front of 22,701 spectators. In 2011 a crowd of 19,196 saw the Warriors defeat Huddersfield before 17,736 watched Wigan down Hull, both attendances being records for games against those teams.

Just two points currently separate the sides in the Super League ladder with Leeds sitting second ahead of Wigan in third. Leeds Winger Ryan Hall who played in the inaugural Big One said: "Having played in the original Big One at Wigan I know just how exciting these games can be.

"As a player there is no greater feeling than running out to see a huge crowd, the atmosphere is always special when these two great clubs collide and it should be a classic when we visit the DW on the 5th of September.

"The Leeds fans will travel in great numbers for this game and I know they will already have this game circled in the calendar after some epic battles between the sides in recent years!"

Marketing Director Simon Collinson said: "We have seen record crowds for The Big One in previous years and we are confident that this year will follow suit, which would be another new attendance milestone for us.

"Wigan v Leeds games are always special and I would urge every one of our loyal band of supporters to be part of the Big One 5 and try to bring at least one person to the game with them. It will be another fantastic night of entertainment and a night not to be missed!"

Tickets are now on sale for the Big One 5 from the DW Stadium ticket office, the ticket hotline 0871 6633 552 and online at wiganwarriors.com

THE 18th Man wrote:if it is for 5am is there a reason why that would be, it seems a bizarre time to announce something, it'll just be the middle of the afternoon in Aus/NZ, hope I'm wrong though. I thought of the big one because of the original tweet saying "BIG announcement"
But it says early night for us as we are up again at 5. So I don't think it's the big one.

Reports in Aus say Sam T is homesick and wants to come back early.

Who knows it could be anything but if it's the big one 5 it will be a massive fail by the club.
Sam has indeed admitted that he is homesick, but he also has said in the report I read, that he has no plans to return home yet.

Perhaps the lifestyle, more money and a bigger and better competition out-weights the homesickness.

It would for me!

I think you're wrong to describe any fan as the above.

Yes, it did get fans talking & other clubs speculating.

But the majority of Wigan fans did expect something a tad more than announcing a fixture promotion.

They sure did, Josie.

But some of the speculation on here was a bit silly with some of the names mentioned.

Spot on. It's even been discussed on other fans sites. It's good that the club is profitable and can afford the budget for things like this. Other clubs please take note.
