I heard from close quarters that a couple of years ago Hampshire's attitude was abysmal and he riled up quite a few players with his cocky attitude and ever since has been like the naughty kid in the corner. Make of that what you will but that's what i was told.

Noble/Wayne did not rate Sam Tomkins because of his frail body the rest is history.

Many great half backs have been cocky let's hope that Rocky follows in their footsteps at Wigan.

Never did Murphy or Gregory any harm being cocky!

This thread isn't really about player development is it? It's about Hampshire.

I don't know if he'll become the world class player some observers think. I'm not even sure what is actually his best position in the senior level at his current time in his progression.

What I do know is that we'd be finding out a lot more about him if he was at Wigan rather than out on loan, as whether Wane likes him or not he'd be getting a game at the moment with our injury position.

bit strange that the club keep upgrading his contracts then if that's the case. From my sources rocky is one of the most likeable lads you'll ever meet even being big mates with micky Mac and John Bateman who I don't think would tolerate big time Charlie's. He's the fittest at the club stays out longer than anyone at the club and works hard to improve. When IL speaks about him it's always positive and if you read rads blogs it's always how well he's done. I don't think wane would tolerate anyone who thought they were Billy big time. The lad has played international all his career then wigan out of the blue decide he's a full back he never will be. You'll never know he's good enough unless he's given a run of games to prove it if he isn't that's down to wane and his boring style of play.if wane had to play a prop at half he would before lose face and bring rocky back hes just too stubborn. Him and George should be playing together with a big pack round them some people have a clue and some havnt.

has Hampshire broken into the Castleford starting halves yet?

maybe its best he be remembered for his Potential than get played and then have fans turn on him like they have Williams (on the RLFANS forum)

to me the issue isnt our young player development.
we have youngster being dumped in at the deep end.

Williams, who was young player of the year. Wane warned it was to early for him to play internationals, he gets picked plays, cant cope with it and so far either looks likes hes lost confidence or carrying a injury.

Tierney, only cover for fullback/Wing, getting a lot more game time that he probably expected in one of the most important positions. i would have liked to see him rotated at fullback with tomkins moving to halves when he does.

I find that very strange. I've spoke to Ryan quite a few times and have always found him to one of the most courteous and polite young men I have met. In fact I wish he did have a bit more "mongrel" in him. As for him never being a fullback this is where I have a bit of a difference of opinion. IMO the modern day fullback is an extra half anyway, and are interchangeable. Dorn, Lomax, Tomkins, Hanbury etc can all play in both positions. Anthony Milford for the Broncos is another such player. In hindsight, which is always a wonderful thing it would probably have been better for both player and club had Hampshire stayed at Wigan in view of Tomkins long lay off and the current injury list, but the crystal ball has been thrown away. I would recall him now, if that's possible, particularly as for whatever reason he's not getting selected at Cas, getting no game time at all. Had he stayed at Wigan he would have played every week even if a couple were at reserve level, which would have been better than not playing at all. We all know he was frustrated at not getting any games from June last year so I can only imagine how fed up he is feeling now.
