Born in Austria in 1889, Adolf Hitler rose to power in German politics as leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, also known as the Nazi Party. Hitler was chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, and served as dictator from 1934 to 1945. His policies precipitated World War II and the Holocaust.
Not really Josie as your links illustrate Hitler became a dictator later. Originally he led the Nazis to become the largest party in Germany in 1932. He was then given the position of Chancellor by then President Hindenburg. Interestingly give WWs view because, Hindenburg was more worried about communist than Hitler and the Nazis. So Hitler only became a dictator 2 years after elections.
In factual terms you are right CP.
However, to support the other point of view, he was dictatorial once he had a firm grip on the Nazi Party before he became officially Führer.
Of course, once he had ulitmate power he really took off.
Hitler demolished all the democratic processes we take for granted. A lesson from history if ever there was one.
Me and my wife once went to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. You walk up a long road built by prisoners. A more chilling place you coudn't imagine. You could feel the evil of the place.
We left fairly quickly.

I am not arguing that he became a dictator, one of the most evil human beings to walk this planet BUT the fact remains and it is a very important one and a salutary lesson for every nation. Ordinary people like you and I willingly chose to elect the personification of evil. Ordinary people gave rise to a future dictator. Germany had years to prevent Hitler the evil dictator being given the 'tools' to wreak havoc on the world. Likewise, our own politicians were not blameless.
The bottom line is that Hitler was an evil man that was allowed by the world a crazy amount of dictatorial power. It need never have happened.

I agree he was a very evil man!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Just as an aside, most of the European Law on human rights, which quite a few on here object to, was brought about as a way of stopping any future nutters from practising their nuttiness.
Every time I hear Trump speak I think of Barry Goldwater.
Goldwater won the Repulican nomination in 1964 on a right wing ticket that makes Trump sound like a soppy Liberal.
He then faced L.B. Johnson in the Presidential election.
Johnson won a landslide in taking Congress and the Senate.
Goldwater was a disaster for the GOP and this is why the party now is in fear and trepidation of Trump winning the nomination.
They fear that Clinton will, like Johnson, take the Senate and Congress and power wise they will be wiped out.
Interesting if Hilary Clinton wins the Presidential election what kind of first lady Bill Clinton will make.
