Smiths problem is that he is comparatively slow.Speed is everything for a 6 or 7 in RL unless you have an outstanding Rugby brain.Smith has not ,Imo he is average.

Is Harry Smith going to replace Sam Powell as the next target man, he made one poor kick but other than that I think he did okay in both games. He nailed loads of money Williams time and time again, why do we look for someone to bear the brunt of negativity when we should be giving praise to those who do well and encourage those who are a little off their game.
He played every game in a crap team last year which must have stunted his growth as a player, give him a break.
The butt of a lot of insults Thornley & Powell both had strong games last night so lets support them shall we. I now feel optimistic that we will see decent rugby this season, I can't wait, and look forward to getting showered by Josie's confetti as the team enters the field. Come on the pies.
Unfortunately we’re going to have it after every single knock on or kick out on the full because that’s been the talking points about him these past couple of years and we’ll have two camps. The ‘I told you he’s rubbish one’ and then the ones who’ll go the other way and defend everything he does.

He’s played a game and a half these past two weeks. He’s been very good in them and made one error by kicking out on the full. Yes it was a poor one but I doesn’t just eradicate the good stuff he came up with. He needs to work on it but he’s also put in some excellent kicks, including a beauty with his first touch last night, that pinned Wire in their ten. A lot of people consider Johnny Lomax the best halfback in the league and his error count is absolutely huge.

I can understand the people who say loaning him out may be for the best but he’s gone past the championship IMO. I think he’ll play enough here to not have to bother but if he’s not getting games, a month to month deal at Toulouse or somebody who ends up short in the halves might be worthwhile.

Wait til the season proper gets underway. You'll soon realise that if you try to point out anything good in certain players, you'll be bombarded with posts, mostly long and detailed, aimed at correcting your deluded views.

Do you remember his try v Leeds in the Challenge Cup at Saints a couple of years ago when he went 80 yards to score?

I don’t know how many posters who are criticising the kick going out on the full went to the game, but there was a very strong wind blowing across the field in that direction maybe the wind just caught it and took it out. It also came at a time when we were under the cosh a bit and he was trying to get us down the field probably just trying to hard

Not much danger of that but if he also proves not good enough like Powell, we will just have two players who aren’t up to it not one. ;) I am not saying he will join Powell on the naughty step but at 22 he needs to stake a claim for a first team slot. He’s of an age where he needs to be a first team regular on merit or if he’s not careful he will start being challenged by younger players coming up from the academy.

Just don't get this.
Smith is an excellent talent and proved it last night. Wire's best attacking threat was Williams and when Smith was on shut him down completely.
OK one error, but for goodness sake get a grip! Field was MOM by fans but didn't he make two glaring errors?
Smith was not good last year but tell me someone who was? As well as playing in a poor side he did it with a busted shoulder that sent him into hospital within days of the season's end.
Give him a break!
Smith is staying at Wigan and hopefully for years to come.

Agreed and the only thing we should want from Smith after last night is for him to learn. In conditions like those and kicking close to the touch line, he needs to be drilling that along the floor, not chipping it up in the air but mistakes happen and it was a minor blot on a second good performance in two weeks. At least he did it well in to Wires half and not kicking from our 40m zone.
