i know alot of people are saying about age being an issue with millard, but werent a few of us saying the same about fletcher last season? we do need some experience in the squad. it is very young at the moment, infact, one of the lowest average ages in super league i believe. with millard we have 2 great hookers there. whithers, i have seen him do good things and one thing i remember from this season is he held someone up over the line, not sure who it was, but it was on his own over the line and held the ball from hitting the floor. he isnt an amazing attacker but he is a great defender. ashton is more attacking so maybe his centre experience from the academy could be called upon.

Millard isnt in the same class as Fletcher. Fletch was an Aussie international and played in the top clubs at the top if their games.
Millard hasnt...

Seems were missing the point a bit here.

We whinge that the squad was too young this season no adequate back up.

1. Millard will be a 1 season stop gap for a player Nobby really wants.

2. Whithers is a good back up player and can play in 1 or 2 positions. Lets be real here he still better than DV and Richards.

We need cover from 1-20 of good quality not what we have now. We lose 2 or 3 players and were digging the academy for players.

No offence, when you have got teams to the last 6 GF I will take your view over Noble's, until then I will trust what he's doing and give him and his signings time to prove themselves.
To be fair though Chris, you were pleased when we signed Vaealiki :doz:

SO this is is then - we are now a bottom six side with bottom six ambitions - i.e. struggling to avoid relegation each year.

We are now exhibiting all the clasic signs: signing over-the-hill 30+ australian journeymen with a get-out clause on the overseas quota. Tempting them with contracts that are at least one year too long. Employing them instead of developing young british talent who (if we are forced to play any) will be poached by the top six if they show any form. And a coach who is treating his spell at the club as a stepping stone to better things (Noble wants to go to Aus if not next year then certainly in 2008).

These signings are stupid - we need a quality centre, not an ageing hooker or full back. Bailey doesn't lok like the answer to me, he's yet another utilities player. If we should sign anyone from the Bulls, let it be Hape.

:(
Calm down, calm down.
Just another rumour!

This is how i see this one! I have been told by a good source involved in the recruitment of players at Wigan, that Richrad's will be paid up at the end of the season as he wants to go back. That leaves us with a wing problem next season as we will also have no Dallas! Withers has made himslef available so the club thinks the easy option will be to put Ashton on the wing and the quick fix solution is Withers at full-back. Not the initial plan, but a lot easier than trying to source a winger.
With regards to Millard, i think that Godwin is signed sealed and delivered to Hull next year, Newton is staying at Bradford, so Millard will serve a purpose as our second Hooker off the bench!
It's not what everyone would have wanted i feel! I think that Wigan were confident that Newton would be here next season so let Godwin go to Hull! I also feel that they thought Richards would naturally fit into the wing spot vacated by Dallas!

Good argument but not sure about the Richards bit. With Dallas out he might come into a team on the up and have a stormer thus changing his mind (if your theory is correct)
