Oldtimer, you need to get your head around the idea that this is a Wigan RL board and that the people who post on here are primarily interested in Wigan RL, not Wigan Athletic ... in that respect you seem to be strangely out of touch.
The general feeling among Wigan RL fans at present is that things are finally moving in the right direction. No-one is especially concerned that Saints are currently playing better rugby; most of us recognise the reality that this situation could soon change, while Saints' very real ground problems will likely drag on into an uncertain future ... in that respect you're also out of touch.
You must also consider the fact that ever since we moved to the JJB, we've been advised by Latics fans - in pubs, in newspaper columns, on message boards (usually OUR message boards) that we were in THEIR stadium, that we weren't wanted never mind needed, and that very, very soon we would be kicked out into the wilderness where we belong. It surely doesn't surprise you that quite a few Wigan RL fans are now expressing scorn when, two seasons into Latics' Premiership era, their crowds are so down that RL folk are suddenly being bribed into helping boost them? ... in that respect you are seriously out of touch.
Sorry, but you are so out of touch on the subject of Wigan RL that I'm starting to suspect you're not one of us at all, but yet another of these Latics fans who come on here masquerading as one of us and seeking to make subtle mischief.

Old Timer you know very well that the reputation of this club is based on decade after decade. Standing/reputation comes with history. Hence, when people talk about Wigan RL they talk about the great / the famous. Hence, when Wigan RL fall into relegation, the media follows that fight rather than the championship winners.
Likewise in fotball, people talk of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal as great clubs. They put the Evertons, Spurs, Chelseas on a pedestal.
My posts are not football sucks blah blah. Peter Houghton / Joe Hinigan were this teenage boys heroes as much as Bretty Kenny and John Ferguson. I watched Bobby Charlton play for Wigan Athletic and there are not many who even know he donned their colours let along watched him.
Much of the mistrust between supporters of each club is down to the football fans be it in the guise of the Cockney Latic Fanzine which spent several years publishing filth and abuse about Wigan RL and the behaviour of Wigan Athletic Supporters in sinking the official club message board with a sustained campaign of abuse directed at Nitsua (an elderly lady) and George (Paperdragon) (an elderly man) culminating the parrot post. Idiots like the Wall Boys / Goon Squad did not help either.
