Did it for an invitatioanal like Johns is doing. If he din't he wouldnt be able to play for both like Dave says.
He is right 1 international counts and there is no going back.
I think the world cup threw up exceptions like Irish and Pacific islands. The is due to Ricketson playing 3 Irish games and then turning out for the Aussies for numerous tests after.

He played for New Zealand but then refused to play for them again while living in Australia until he could claim Australian residency because he wanted to play Origin but was picked for the Australian squad in 2004.
Other famous players to play for New Zealand and Australia are Dally Messenger and Andrew Johns.

He will be playing later this year providing he isn't injured.

both for invitational purposes which need to be cleared with the RL. Origin doesnt make a difference for nationality. Adrian Lam was captain of Queensland but played for PNG....

The SoO comes into this in the way that if a player represents NZ and is a Kiwi international he won't be selected for State of Origin. Adrian Morely could not play origin football either because he was a GB international although having played his first game of pro RL in Australia in NSW he qualified for NSW in all other ways.
So if Hansen went to play in the NRL he could not play SoO as he is a current Kiwi international as that disqualifies him from the Origin series.
Why Lam could therefore is interesting but one thing is for sure the Aussies have never been shy at international level (never mind SoO0 of bending the rules to get a player on board who is of another nationality if they think he is good enough.
GB on the other hand are much stricter and stick to the rules which is why citing examples of players like Carroll in Australia does not prove Hansen could still play for GB. What happens down under on the international front has been controversial for years with the Aussies regularly accused of stealing players for the international side who really ought to be playing for NZ or one of the island nations.

I agree Dave, I was referring to other statements and explained why SOO has nothing to do with rep football.
If Hansen got permission of the RFL and he was invited in theory with Carrol setting a precident he could probably play, however I can see that being the only way.
