No man more patriotic than me when it comes to supporting England.
That is until it comes to Rugby Union.
If you are a true League fan, you will see and understand all the underhand deeds that Union use to belittle and try to destroy our game. Media coverage is despicable at times, our players hardly recognised, wheras so called union superstars, portrayed as heroes, the same players not capable of playing in our amateur game. Two weeks ago, Andy Farrel was labelled a flop, and a waste of time. This all down to his previous League connection. This really gripes me big style, so I was absolutely chuffed when they lost to South africa. Under 9's Ker Plunk England team, c'mon England.
So it's a Union driven media conspiracy to destroy RL?
I have been a 'true' fan of both League and Union for 40 years over that time I've seen both sides doing their bit to undermine the other. Union perhaps more so but that's a moot point.
As I say we are now in the 21st century and what I currently see is two versions of a similar game competing with other sports for an audience.
Union seems to have its act together in terms of world audience, player remuneration, TV coverage, global advertising etc. League, with what I consider since the switch to summer to be the better version, riddled with administrative problems. If they sorted out the salary cap the farcical refereeing standards/appointments not to mention Sky's televised commentary bias towards St Helens etc then we might see League get the recognition it deserves.
At the moment rather than blame union clubs for offering players a better package it would be more productive if the RL administration got itself sorted to allow League clubs to compete on an equal footing.
