My point exactly, we've got too many people in the world today justifying their hatred of things based on distant historical events.

The banning of RL in Vichy France says a lot about the Nazi regime and the people of that time. The link to RUgby Union in the 21st century is a little fanciful.

My Grandfather was gassed in WWI but I don't have deep seated hatred of Germans (or mustard for that matter).

Live and let live if you don't like something don't watch it. I just find the reasons some people come up with for their 'hatred' a little OTT.

It was an awful game all the same.

Thought it all kicked off when someone told Julies Cesar that Knowseley Road was a better stadium than the Coliseum.

So he invaded and took over.

Or does KR look that bad now.

Don't hate it just don't like it, not going to kill anyone or anything ,I did watch it but when they lost the game it was just a loss nothing to get upset about .
My post was about why I find it hard to support a RU team from my country , the reasons may seem OTT to you but they are still reasons for me and although I do try it still annoys me a bit when the RU media still continually take the high ground .
I do agree it was a bad game :D

sad strange little man.

should be cheering on your country no matter the sport.

even if it was the under 9's ker-plunk world championship you should cheer on england

If you are a true League fan, you will see and understand all the underhand deeds that Union use to belittle and try to destroy our game. Media coverage is despicable at times, our players hardly recognised, wheras so called union superstars, portrayed as heroes, the same players not capable of playing in our amateur game. Two weeks ago, Andy Farrel was labelled a flop, and a waste of time. This all down to his previous League connection. This really gripes me big style, so I was absolutely chuffed when they lost to South africa. Under 9's Ker Plunk England team, c'mon England.

Hmm but the RFU spent 100 years trying desperatly to wipe out RL, its not just the vichys in france, if (and i dont know) you were around in the 80's you might remember the amount of players who were banned sine die for even having unpaid trials with an RL team. This was during the shamiterism days, when austin healey, who was a brickie who played for orrell moved to one of the london clubs and became a stock broker, (you figure it out) yet Phil Fords brother was banned from rugger for a having a trial

Someone has posted how they feel more at home cheering for the welsh at RU i would agreee with that, they have more in common with RL than twickers ever will i just cannot get excited about a game of kick tennis

as has been said in 1800 and whatever Dave Smith picked up the ball and ran with it thus inventing Rugby League, he passed it to William Webb Ellis who hoofed it into the stands thus inventing RU

by the way William Webb Ellis creating is a bit of an urban myth

Didn't watch it; I've got some grass* that looks like it might be thinking of growing, had to watch that instead.

Read the reports, though, and even they made me yawn; I couldn't have stayed awake for 80 minutes of it. Yet again, a battle of goalkickers and not a single try.

* Edit: no, not that sort!
You couldnt be more true, 24 points scored and not a single try. What a load of rubbish. Yet they are heroes, as portrayed by ITV, BBC, Times, Guardian, Sun, Mirror, etc etc etc. Dont get me wrong, it is not the players i despise, it is the organisation within that I strongly dislike.

It is a poor game that is true but please give up on the stereotypes. They don't all hate RL and the people that matter in the RU club that my son plays for have all been to watch Wigan and are coming back for more next season.

They're all a bunch of Tarquins! I always hope they get stuffed, or if they have to win that its ex-league players that score all the points.

So it's a Union driven media conspiracy to destroy RL?

I have been a 'true' fan of both League and Union for 40 years over that time I've seen both sides doing their bit to undermine the other. Union perhaps more so but that's a moot point.

As I say we are now in the 21st century and what I currently see is two versions of a similar game competing with other sports for an audience.

Union seems to have its act together in terms of world audience, player remuneration, TV coverage, global advertising etc. League, with what I consider since the switch to summer to be the better version, riddled with administrative problems. If they sorted out the salary cap the farcical refereeing standards/appointments not to mention Sky's televised commentary bias towards St Helens etc then we might see League get the recognition it deserves.

At the moment rather than blame union clubs for offering players a better package it would be more productive if the RL administration got itself sorted to allow League clubs to compete on an equal footing.

I'm sorry but the ban on rugby league in France during the war WAS suggested to the vichy/nazi govt by the French Rugby Union and they recieved all the seized assets of the fledgling French rugby league and guess how much was paid back, yes you got it. Forgive maybe, forget never.
"They just came to the club.I was there training in the Under 13's. They told us we had to stop playing Rugby 13. They took our kit and even the balls". 1942 unknown French rugby league player. Never forget.
