In which case the knowledge he gained of RL at that time when he was 15 or 16 even if out of date will be invaluable if he switches back again won't it!GeoffN wrote:I think the point cdw is making is that it would have helped him in his move to RU; at least he had some knowledge of the game, even if out of date.DaveO wrote:How is what Edwards did at schoolboy level 25 years ago relevant to either his possible return to RL or even to his job in RU? He was a kid and signed for Wigan on a full time deal as a teenager (17 I think wasn't it). I doubt what he did as a teenager aged 14, 15 or 16 in RU counts for anything at all.cornwall drive warriors wrote:Anybody who keeps asying Edwards was an expeception, as he only played league, must remember he played union at international level as a school boy!!!!!
He did know both codes before he signed for Wigan

The biggest objection to Edwards return from some if often his RL knowledge is out of date yet at the same time the fact he played RU at schoolboy level was a help in his move to RU despite it being gained as a kid? The fact he played the game at 16 before he signed for Wigan is irrelevant IMO.
Exactly. I think virtually any coach could come in and if they addressed the basics we would see much better performances so Edwards would not have to do much technically to improve on the inept start to the season. (and the performances over the last couple of seasons). As I've said before, though, it's Shaun's motivational/man-management skills that are needed here, rather than any technical innovations. The basic game hasn't changed that much since he left, and it's the basics that we can't (or won't) get right at present.
