I agree with you all about Ellery being his own man and being perceived as "difficult". I think the only "problems" - with Stains was the fact that he wasn't afraid to give his opinions, which not everybody likes. A clash of egos at the Board level - "I'm the Boss". IL would have to accept this, but I think Ellery would give a very honest appraisal of the team and what needs to be fixed. A price worth paying in my humble opinion to give this once proud Club the respect it deserves. Uncle Mo said Ellery was "the most difficult player he ever had to negoitate with" but he also said he was the best player he ever signed. I cannot think of a better assistant Coach than Shaun Wayne either.
Let's hope The Powers that Be are reading this.
As President Obama said "Time for Change"!!

cheers geoff, makes browsing so much easier

good job!
now ill actually give my call on this new coach fiasco
personally i think IL does not have the metal to sack brian noble, ive heard comments regarding the amount of money which he would actually have to pay in compensation to nobby. And we all know ian has been reluctant to put his hand in his pocket for players (i.e buderus, wiki, king) so what makes people think that he will put his hands in his pocket for a new coach? Noble won't walk, knowing nobby he would want to attempt to sort the mess out which deep down he will be blaming himself for.
Who are potential candidates?
Shaun Edwards
Well every wigan fan would love to see shaun back at the club but can anyone actually seeing it happen? He is on so much money coaching Wasps and Wales and he obviously has ambitions to coach the Lions so I think that the possibility of us attracting Edwards in the near future is very slim indeed.
Ellery Hanley
Another one who has been mentioned is the pearl. But do we want someone who when at other clubs has not really stuck by them for more than a year or two? Do we want more coach chopping in 2 years?
I personally think we're stuck with nobby until the end of the season minimum, unless noble walks which i seriously doubt he would do.

lam with rads and mick cass as assistants anyone? two guys with heart for the club as shining examples for the heartless players out there and a head coach with some ideas on how to design attacking plays with decent game schemes for players who aren't the same standard as some of their opponents.

Tony Iro has been appointed as New Zealand's assistant coach following Wayne Bennett's decision to step down from the post.
He'd do for me, too!

Bennett has stepped down to concentrate on his role with St George Illawarra, it's not like he has left the Kiwi set up just to mooch around doing nothing.
Unfortunately, the only real ie available, candidates are Cullen, (please NO!) Steve McCormacvk following his sacking from Widnes (he sounded very enthusiastic about Ainscough and J. Tomkins on GMR last night) and Ellery Hanley. Everyone else is tied up with contracts.

If it is time for a change in the coaching department how about ...
Director of Rugby : John Monie
Yeah, yeah, I know I may be looking in the past but let me explain. Monie is currently available after ending his job with France, he's got experience in the UK & Oz and would allow my choice of head coach to concentrate on coaching the team by taking care of everything else.
Head Coach : Adrian Lam
OK, not experienced as a head coach of a club but did a good job when he coached the younger players at Wigan. With a limited pool of players his PNG team played some attractive rugby in the World Cup and should have beaten England.
Assistant Coach : Shaun Wane
Has been with the club for quite some time now and done a fantastic job with the academy team. Thoroughly experienced about what's needed at Wigan and will push the case for talented young players to be given their shot in the first team.
* Would love Edwards as Head Coach but I think we're all realistic to think there's very little chance of this happening.
