Both us and Wire have talked to Offiah about Eastmond he has turned down Saints first offer for the year after next. Saints want to see how he goes at half this coming year before they come back with more money, Wire see him as a peplacment for Briers.
Goulding is wanted by Tony Smith and Goulding nearly went last year he had talks, Smith rates him, we are looking to move players and one or two may come in, Bails is the latest name who may move on he wants two years Nobby may give him that at Celtic.

I seem to be the only one in our household who even questions whether Bailey should be re-signed, everyone else has blind loyalty to the fella.

I seem to remember someone on here saying that he was on a major share of the salary cap, and if so I'm sure that a similar offer from Nobby would answer our questions. If true, it would appear that unless he's willing to take a fair cut in his wage to stay at Wigan, he'll be gone, as it leaves MM no salary cap head space to bring in anyone else if he doesn't. That's unless someone else on a big wage is going elsewhere?

Im 99.9% sure Bailey has re-signed with us, or at least he had a few weeks ago!

Dave, thanks for the detailed reply, I guess a lot rests on what IL and SW have advised MM on, and what MM believes he can get from him (individually as much as for the team!).

Was at a Wigan Schools dinner at the DW on Friday night where IL gave the final after dinner speech. After a short word on his Wigan roots, he finished quite abruptly by saying that reliance on Wigan Schools developed players once worked in the past, and WILL work again in the future.

Maurice L had also spoken earlier about the importance of getting Joe Lydon and Andy Greg back into a Wigan shirt in the mid 80's, to build a core of his Wigan team. With Longy and Joynty in the room, you didn't have to look too far to realise where we've gone wrong in recent times, and where the core of our Team will come from in the future, when wages alone can not be the primary motivation.

MM has an excellent track record that was on show for all to see in the first 40 mins on Saturday, with both Inglis and Slater developed by him at Melbourne. IL talked about giving chances for up to 8 of the current academy and reserve squads in the coming years. What an opportunity they have!

In summary, I guess that Bailey would be a great influence and support for this development. The only question is if his individual fitness is to be relied upon.

P.S. Will put a more detailed post together on Friday night's dinner when I get some time, as it was quite an uplifting night, where I think most men in the room will have come away feeling nothing but optimism for the future. Watch this space . . .
