It's a tricky one as we do not know how much cap money the club has compared to others. Ideally I would keep him but lesser clubs migfht be dangling longer contracts or more money in front of him. Shame because Tez Newton argues in his autobiography that letting lots of senior players go in one go etc.

Not read Newton's book yet but I would certainly agree that the loss of so many of our senior players in one go did untold damage at the time!

Quite a good book as an addition to the Kris Rads one in terms of understanding that era etc.

Remember when we lost near enough a full team at the end of one season... it has took us this long to recover from, especially the most senior players

That is what Terry Newton pinpoints in his book Josie. I had forgotten how dramatic it was but as you say an absolute disaster and something that took an age to recover from.

I am now convinced we had a better team, better young players coming through than even now and we commited self harm to the point of a failed suicide attempt. We have better coaches now although Happy Frank and people like Mike Greg created the right atmosphere.

I think this is one of the main parts of sucess and one that Saints and leeds have employed over the past 10 years. Hopefully we've learnt - Don't change your playing staff by more than 3 per year!
