Mellor would have made mistakes, I have no doubt.
But my point was that Mellor would not have played any worse given the run in the team. Of course, that can never be proved.
And Mellor is a rookie. Finch is a seasoned player with a lot of experience behind him. Which makes his performances for Wigan disapointing, in my opinion.
I repeat that I am in no way saying he's a "bad" player.
(oh, and Mellor should have been given some game time this year, regardless of anything else, unless those who matter really don't rate him).

Is this post from Mellors mum?
Am sorry but no way would Mellor been as good as Finchy, he wouldnt have been able to direct the team around like Finchy does. Finchy tells the players all the time through the game where he wants them to run, he never shuts up talking and sorting out the defence. Am not saying Mellor isnt good enough, just that he isnt ready to throw in yet but he will be just be patient.

No. I'm no relation to Mellor...
I just don't see this great play from Finch. Has he been terrible? No. Not even in the dark days of the early season when he clearly wasn't match fit.
If you think Finch has been brilliant then fair enough. Opinions make the world go around.
For me, he's been a disappointment. Stand-out moments are few and far between and I think that Mellor COULD have done as much as Finch has done this season if he'd been given the run. Maybe he wouldn't, but like I've said before we can never prove that.
All that springs to mind to me is Nobby slavishly continuing to pick Tim Smith. Not that I'm saying Mellor is anything like the player Sam Tomkins was, before I get accused of being Mellor's girlfriend or something.
Although even allowing for that, I think Mellor should have been given some game time this season at least becuase it will be very difficult for him to slot in next season, if that is indeed the plan. It may not be.
And I naturally hope Finch proves me wrong over the next three weeks.

RE Finch there are times when his passing is on a different level to anybody else in the team. The timing, delayed passes, softness put him ahead of Lockers who is probably our 2nd best passer. The players who has done little IMO is Deacs.
Defensively, Finch is outstanding, driving and organising the team he is excellent.
Deacs has been the greater let down for me BUT I would have liked to have seen Mellor and Powell given opportunities.

iwficon I to am amazed at the ott comments regarding Finchy, he is a good team player at best, what he is being paid for. The passes to Hofman have been the mainstay of his season + some tremendous tackling.
I concur with cp though, Deacon has been a disappointment for quite a while now. Half back pairings could have been changed although I have never seen Mellor play.

It's perhaps not helped him to be alongside Deacon who, whilst I wouldn't say has been terrible either, is certainly coming to the end of his career.
If I was talking about Finch in comparison to other half backs in the competition this season he'd be mid-table. There's certainly worse out there this season...there's certainly been better too.

Personally I think Finchy has had a good season for us and better than the run of the mill that some are suggesting.
His organisation and communication skills have been possitive plus his tackling has been much better than I expected of him.
Next season I just hope Hock can keep a level head on the field as I think his running off Finch could be something very special.
Here's hoping.
