I agree. Although I think you are giving them a bit too much credit with the "where they think its right" bit. As if the ones we have lost they have decided they weren't worth it. I think it is far more likely they have been too slow to react.Mike wrote:Yeah, thats been mentioned on here too. On some I think you are right, but on the majority I imagine they would have had the opportunity to make a counter offer. Unless you really want to leave an organisation you would pretty much always give them an opportunity to better an offer you just had to leave. It would then be up to the club to decide whether they wanted to better that offer or not. With Thornley I think they offered what they thought would keep him at the club but were wrong. Perhaps they would have gone higher but perhaps that was there best offer. Clearly they were annoyed enough to let it slip to the press so something went wrong there.DaveO wrote:I agree. Players given a good contract will stay, those given less attractive ones may move on.DaveO wrote:While in theory you are right I think you can spot a mile off the players who will see their contracts out.Wintergreen wrote:I really rate McIllorum, but really?
Haven't we seen enough evidence to realise that a contract means zip?
Faz is one. He's on a long term deal and MM is another.
Mind you that said the offers both players got must have suited them but now signed up I don't think they will look elsewhere.
We have had players honour contracts before, such as Pat, Tommy L and others. It is not inevitable players break contracts.
I am sure if he had wanted to MM could have got a contract elsewhere but clearly he was happy with the offer.
So well done for IL for coming up with a deal one of our best (and one of my favourite) players felt he could accept. Now he has I am confident he will see the contract out.
Is this down to the player or the person offering the contract.
Maybe given the right incentive other good players wouldn't be leaving our club.

MM took a nasty bash to his eye last night. Hope he is OK for Wire.

Said it was a bad one on Sky but didn't quite catch what, hence my Powell earning his money comment in another post.

He had a very bad cut on his lower eyelid

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
