In this case I blame the clubs. Th y decided it wasn't "beneficial to the league in the medium term" or something. Actually they just didn't want to organize another foreign trip after covid IMO. Short-term-ism of the highest order.josie andrews wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 5:46 pmThe RFL are killing our game as they go along IMOMike wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 5:20 pmThe RFL/SL sort of killed it dead. There are still some leagues but way smaller ambition and no investment. It was a crazy way to drive investment out of the game IMO.josie andrews wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 5:18 pm
I understand that Mike, but I think the Americans are a lot different from the Canadians. Are there still leagues in either place?![]()
Disagree, america and Canada isn't like popping to Europe and long term would add to costs for fans as clubs will be forces to increase tickets to make up for revenue loss from lack of away fansMike wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 1:33 amIn this case I blame the clubs. IMO it was an opportunity to access a huge new market with vast investment potential into a cash strapped sport. To say there was no medium term value was just a lie from the clubs who were only looking at the next few seasons. I doubt the opportunity will come around again. I wonder what IMG would have thought at the time. Let's hope the no-growth strategy pays off, but in business that's usually a route to going out of business eventually.Caboosegg wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 9:17 amDisagree, america and Canada isn't like popping to Europe and long term would add to costs for fans as clubs will be forces to increase tickets to make up for revenue loss from lack of away fans
These are still going strong. They've got a womens league too.
I agree, lets face it, some clubs only bring 100/200 supporters anyway so it's not like the club would be loosing out on tens of thousands if an overseas club only had 20/30 supporters, yes revenues would be down but it should be up to the clubs to market the expected low away support to get more casuals through the door, the Toronto and potential US markets should have been viewed with an opprotunity to reach a wider TV audienceMike wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 1:47 pmIMO it was an opportunity to access a huge new market with vast investment potential into a cash strapped sport. Another case in point that Wigan really don't listen to the fans .josie andrews wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 4:14 pm South stand sold out
