I think Long is a prime example of a "take take" attitude that prevails in certain sections of society today and he is such a contrast to those players who were not even full time players earning anything like his kind of money.
Anyway, back to 2006

Do you not think this will ruin Long's chances at playing in the NRL? If he was 'take take' would it not have been in his best interests to stay in Australia?
How about once he found out Ricky Stuart had no interest in signing him for his club (which is a fact that came to light before he left) and no one else was interested, Lomg decided there was no point staying in Australia?

Let's get one thing right Danny Budereus pulled out. Cunnigham pulled out of a GB Tour but then talked about making himself available for Wales. That is not acceptable. Nor is Chris Thorman pulling out of the England Fed Cup squad saying he would have toured if selected for GB but was not prepa\red to front up for England and needed to rest.

Berrigan is an example as to how things should be done. His brother wanted him to be best man at his wedding this weekend. He asked Stuart if he could be released. He was refused permission. he was selected and he plays as a reserve.

GB is about the Alan Prescotts, its about putting everything on the line for your country. Heavens above imagine if Long had to do a full Ashes tour. I will offer an alternative to Long and co. Back in the day, the GB tours left before the end of the domestic season. Clubs involved in finals had to play weithout their tourists. Ken Gee missed a Challenge Cup Final. We beat Hudds in a Championship Final (1950) with our reserves. Country came before club.

When we have British soldiers dying for their country what Long has done is a disgrace.
Please lighten up!!

Has what Long did really affected us?

Would we have won if he had played in his current state?

Has he embarrassed anybody other than himself?

IMO you are all making a mountain out of a molehill and, for once, I agree with Rob that the response on here would have been totally different had he not been a Saints player.

It does not matter who he plays for. I felt the same when Andy Goodway pulled out of tours. Yes it does matter. It says so much about modern sportsmen/women and shows why we as a country fare so badly sportswise today.

I don't feel so strongly. IMO the only person that this episode says anything about is Sean Long. I also find it distateful to mention our soldiers in the same breath.

Why Jimmy? Both are representing our country? Can you imagine if our soldiers adopted the attitude that Long has and there sacrifice is far far greater.

Well it's only a game of rugby! What does it matter in the long run? I don't feel bismirched by what Long has done. IMO he has only embarrassed himself.

I sort of agree with you both. I did think the link to our soldiers was rather OTT.

However I also think what Long has done affects more than just himself. IMO it makes our sport look amateurish to the Aussies and others such as potential sponsors and the press who like to have a dig. He gave the press plenty of ammunition.

If we want the Aussies to take international RL seriously we can't be doing with players who bunk off early because they feel a bit tired.

I agree with you here Dave.

The correct procedure would have been for Noble to make Long stay within the camp but just don’t play him. He could have gone home with the rest of the team after our loss today and nothing would have been said.

O did I mention we would lose today, sorry for pre-empting the result I hope I’ve not spoilt it for anyone.
