Sorry to butt in i dont know your cousin turf so im not going to comment but if i may comment on his situation i think it could go either way.
1.Unfair dissmisal is a breach of contract by the employer themselves normally what should happen between employer and employee is first a verbal warning then a written warning then a formal interview then the sack.
2.Hovever ask your cousin to read his contract and see if he has broken any contract termination rules these normally are in place for serious gross misconduct charges E.g. sexual harrassment,bullying etc.Not surfing online on company time.
Now im not saying this may be the case but if he has been caught doing anything un toward on line E.G porn etc but saying hes been on ebay to save face then ask him straight as he wont have a leg to stand on. So just leave it and when he goes for his next job tell him not to put them down as a referance as it will be on record.
However if it is exactly as he says it is check his contract and if its unfair dissmisal he defo needs to see the citizens advice beuro because it might go on his employment record and they could get it wiped off in an instant.He wont have to work for the company again and he will just get a compensation package if he wins.
P.s was he part of a union and if so was the union rep present at the time of dismissal?
As for the family side im thinking your cuz needs to get another job asap and hopefully with a little ass kissing everyone will forgive and forget as time is a great healer.
