Jason Robinson was on the slippery slope to throwing it all away until a certain large winger by the name if Inga turned up.

JR with Inga as his mentor then gave up the booze, got all religious and the rest, as they say, is history.

Has Tim Smith had a similar dramatic change of attitude? Genuine question by the way.

yeh you could be right daveo, i guess its one of those this we'll only know after he has reacted one way or the other, its not something we can predict as none of know that much about him

Lets give this kid a shot at getting his career back on track.Lets be honest we have had our fair share of nutcases over the years ie( bobby goulding) to name but one.On his day he could turn a game on its head.At least a short term contract.If it does not work out then get shot.We need the odd nutcase to match the oddballs at the saints. :with: :eusa17:

I trust Lenegan / Lydon on their signings. They are not going to tie themselves into long term contracts on unknowns, e.g. Mathers, Phelps. They pulled off probably the seasons best signing in Carmont.

Tim Smith looked good on you tube what a pass he throws out all of 25 yards and the winger was clear through knowing our wingers it would have been dropped.

Signing Carmont was a par for the course signing you would expect any club to make every now and again. They went looking for a centre of some experience who had a good rep for a two year deal. Carmont won't be on a fortune, had no baggage such as previous serious injury or any off field problems. Good bit of normal recruitment business.

Tim Smith, if we get him, is a risk. The ONLY reason we will go for him is as we all know because Barrett has broken his contract. I am sure they won't sign Smith for a fortune or on a log term deal but this is not a normal bit of recruitment business like Carmont was. It has been forced on the club and isn't the result of some clever scouting which you could say getting Carmont was.

It's in the Mathers and Pryce bracket. Risky signings.

There isn't a lot else IL and JL could do given the situation so I am not having a go at them but lets not kid ourselves signing Smith is part of some master plan because it isn't. It could backfire but if he holds it together for a year then he will have covered Barrett's final year and given Sam Tomkins another year to develop.

It is risky whenever you sign someone with mental problems, you can never tell how they are going to react.
What I'm unsure about is according to this http://www.wigantoday.net/warriors/Wiga ... 4148509.jp he is a scrum half.

I'm not a fan of playing people out of position especially when it is such an influential position. It says in that article he wouldn't be a replacement for Barrett, by this do they mean on the salary cap?

And yes I know there are no direct quotes so it may be unreliable but there is no smoke without fire.

IMO any so called scrum half should be able to play both positions.Todays game lends itself to this.
