refusing to work, can be dismissed its in my contract and im in a union. Ballot or not.

Striking, saying we wont work until or so you dont do x,y or z is holding them to ransom no matter how you play it.

Your point that profits are made by the 'people who put stuff in tins', as opposed to the 'FAT CATS' is nonsense. Without those 'FAT CATS', you wouldn't have tins or anything to put in them!

I only hope your leaders make a better argument than you do because frankly, you have not furthered your cause on here!

Reading it, to me, seems like a schizophrenic shouting AT INTERVALS for no APPARENT reason. At least we are getting more members to these boards which isn't only the best for wigan warriors (in my opinion) but the best for wigan life (in this section)

Bobby I am a teacher but very much working class. Yes I am in a Union. My own experience is that Teaching Unions are very ineffective (legislation makes any Union weak today) other than the legal protection they offer should something go badly wrong. For that reason alone I remain in a union. Far too many people in my experience who become part of Union structure (from shop stewards to those employed by the Union) become no better and often as selfish as the management.

I am all for striking when the logic exists. Unfortunately, just like the Great Miners Strike when I saw family members suffer horifically due to an ill timed / ill thought out strike. Again none of the Union structure suffered.

Any strike by Heinz is IMO ill times / ill thought out. The Heinz job is unskilled. I cannot remember who posted that it was a very skilled job. If that was the case how do Temps and Heinz employs many come along and do the job required so quickly. You need no skills / no education. It is an industry that could easily be relocated and here we have an illogical strike threatening to see a source of mass employment go down the gurgler.

Heinz WAS a closed shop. For any Heinz worker to be talking principles and so forth is hypocritical given how they were quite happy for generations to benefit from such practices. As a job. It is an easy job in decent conditions. The pay comparative to the skill / education required with all the added bonuses is excellent. We are in the midst of a truly crappy period in our Nations fortunes and it will not be getting better any time soon.

Why risk all the above?

hi,nothing wrong with being a teacher my daughter in law is a primary school teacher,and some of the things she tells me about are stupid rules she cant touch the children at all,when i was at school the teachers were violent towards the pupils and very poor teachers.but as regards the heinz job i know you dont have to be well educated to do the job ,but anyone who has been on a production line will tell you how soul destroying it is and they deserve all the wages etc that they can get,when heinz was producing at standish the redundant miners were the only people who would work there because it was a good job for them after the very bad conditions down the mines. IMO the tories did a good job in closing the mines even after the hardship we suffered in the strike,i for one would not be alive today if i had carried on working down the mines.i suppose everyone thinks their job is worse than every other job.

DayGlo. I will answer honestly and tell you I never missed a match, home or away, when we played in the Second Division. I drove home from Huyton hoping none of the bricks hit my Capri. Prior to that, I never missed a match during the strike. I was at Central Park when Smethurst turned out for us. I was at Wakefield when Ste Breheny broke Sash's jaw and I never missed a BBC2 Floodlit Trophy game when we were disqualified for playing Breheny when he had only served 8 of his 9 match ban!

Oh, and I was in the Old Engine regularly on a Friday night when many of your co-workers were bragging about how much they were making for doing so little. I have even got friends who still can't believe their luck at landing a job in the Kitt Green goldmine!
