As the replay Ive seen his elbows were not up in the initial tackle.
And it certainly fired our players up and not before time!
Ganson was not protecting our players! somebody has to stand up!
His weak contribution to this game was the main reason behind the flare ups.
Joel Tomkins was in a good enough position to let Yeaman have it when the fists first started flying, yet he came off second best. This is the reason he raised his elbow in the next drive, which looked to be aimed at Yeamans chin area on Warriors TV at the DW just after the match finished.
Knowing Joel's probable intention, surely he should have been pulled off to cool down after the initial scrap.

Spooky enough it was Yeaman who hit Sam in the air, the scrap should have resulted in a sin binning when it didn't then somthing was always going to happen, I think if it had been a sin bin we would have dropped two points today. Well done Ganson!!

The stupid part is the vast majority of RL players as per the whole poplulation cannot fight. I remember him breaking a bone in his hand fighting during his academy games. Most of the time he fights or gets riled tends to be in response to protecting Sam. My father played with his younger brother and was exactly the same.

Thanks for the clarifying Kitwazzer,
Iv'e been off the site, and away from Rugby League for a couple of months now, to try and get the "gee up" that I needed for new season, the players have worked hard in pre season, they have played the "warm up" matches and a couple of League matches as have other teams.
How many other teams have had two players banned so early in the season? (Joel is not banned but want a bet?).
Other teams get frustrated but they don't get players sent off. Discipline the players to think for themselves, therein lies the problem, why wasn't Joel taken off,. Coaches fault? Don't give referees the opportunity to make the easy choice, at one time playing at home give you an advantage regards "getting away with it" not anymore because we are Wigan. Ganson's report is foolproof, he went through procedure, saw the linesman, his mind is made up, simple.
We are running out of forwards and the season has only just started! Players playing out of position, playmakers injured. What happens if McColorum (Sp), gets injured? We are up the creek.
New idea's from the coaches please otherwise Agar's tactics will be the norm

So true CP, and Joel's very competative nature means he will never back down.
Both Joel and Yeaman should have initially been sin binned, so should Luaki for his cheap shot on Sam after his shoulder charge, yet Ganson chose to oversee this.
Has his history of pushing the old lady started effecting his game. He is normally a referee intolorant of incidents like this.

No coverage in Melbourne,so I can only go by what I heard on Wish's audio coverage.
Was Joel an idiot ?
In that situation with Wigan gaining momentum I'd have to say YES.He knew he would get marched & give the ball to Hull, which could quite easily have cost the game.OK it fired up the team, but weren't they already building momentum in a scoring position ? As for Ganson ! Don't get me started on that excuse for a show pony :devi:

You can't control the gameplan your opponents bring & shuffling your own game plan is a bad tactic.Wigan didn't sound like it reacted to the loss of Deacon,(or used their gameplan ?).I kept hearing that players made a break but had no support play ? This is a Bellamy / Maguire essential at training - You MUST back up the ball carrier !! On this occasion it wasn't adhered to.Still two points is two points right ?

cherry.pie wrote:Having seen the incident again on the Super League show I think it would be outrageous for Joel to get a ban for 'leading with the forearm'. He goes into contact with his arms across his chest ready to push out on contact. Yeaman is knocked back and loses grip in the tackle and Joel's arm raises as he pushes out. The Hull FC players charging in and complaining to Ganson suggested it was a lot worse than it actually was.
It is far from as clear cut as was first suggested although one would need to see it from several angles. As you state Joel was using his standard fend that he uses 20+ times every game so intent is impossible to prove and first point of contact could be interesting.

No, he did what most players should do and take the next drive in. I coach Kids rugby and after a scuffle always send the guy involved in to show he won't be rattled.

Joel went in with his arm down, Ran at Yeaman and went to hit him hard. His arm came up and pushed Yeaman's head back. Yeaman didnt react at first, only when other players got involved.

This is how i saw it yesterday, and the SLS confirms it.

He will get banned by the RFL, but thats just the way the RFL play it early in the season.

I'm sure they had a beer together after the match and laughed about the incident.
