How many people do you think would not renew their season tickets either in protest or just because they felt the team was being undermined if this went through?
Sport for clubs is not about profit as main motivator. It's about winning stuff and while the finances have to be on an even keel it should be quite easy to turn this offer down.
Two things if every single season ticket holder didn't buy next years which is not going to happen it still only comes to 2.2million.
And profit is the main motivator! you cant run any business successfully without it.
Just think how man young ones that will bring through the academy to sell on!
At the end of the day the salary cap is the issue, and until every game of rugby league is on tv them it will not grow.
Yes DaveO i did mean they have offered Wigan 2.2 million quid as compensation.I wonder if IL has or is going to accept the offer will only be announced after people have renewed their season tickets to stop exactly what you said about revenue happening.I think it would be a big mistake if they let them go.But i have a certain amount of faith in IL.

Not for a sports club it isn't. You do not buy into professional sports clubs as a money making enterprise. There are far better investments for you money than that particularly better than RL clubs.
There is a difference between not wanting to run the club at loss (or on handouts) and wanting to run it to make profit for the sake of profit (to reward shareholders) as ordinary businesses do.
If IL is in the for profit and is prepared to sell assets such as the Tomkins brothers for profit we need a new chairman. Simple as that.

They are the clubs assets. They can't be counted on a balance sheet like traditional assets but the draw of the clubs star players is what brings people to games. IL must know this and so that should make a huge baring on any decision.

Yeah your right im sure the Glaser Brothers bought United for the love of the sport not for profit.
With 2.2million you can invest a lot in future players and young talent...
