GRAND FINAL MORE THOUGHTS

Post by wildbeast »

Now watched the game live and twice on bbc. Firstly congratualations to the players-magnificent performance. Also the fans - best atmosphere for years really lifted the team.
Best 2nd half performance this year and simple fact is that Wire just couldn't live with Wigan in that mood-nothing to do with injuries although didn't help their cause. What really stood out for me was how knackered the wire looked. Their so called superior pack were well and truly hammered and just couldn't cope.
Just one thing-didn't enjoy the tackle on Ratchford maybe legal - don't think it was in any way malicious but I'm certain if the same thing had happened to Sam by Westwood we'd have been baying for blood!

at 16-2 down we where still in the game but if they had scored again i do think it would have been a different result

That said we mullered them in the 2nd half and more than well deserved what was an excellent win from a great team perfomance

Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White

Spot on, wildbeast! Did you notice that Briers kicked to touch at the end of their 1st set in 2nd half - fair enough when you're 10 points up, slow the game down, rest your forwards. BUT he was still doing the same when we got in front: a sure sign imo that he knew his old men were struggling to cope with the battering we gave them. And nothing to do with Ratchford'd injury, as you rightly say.

If you read the post match comments in the news item about Wire counting the human cost of the final it reads to me like they went into that game carrying a fair few niggles and injuries that caught up with them in the end.

If so I think this was because age caught up with several players as the season wore on i.e. it just wasn't bad luck but almost inevitable. Players like Morely were knackered. We on the other hand were not, bar Lockers, carrying any injuries to that extent or carrying as much "age".

This takes nothing away from us, it is just another reason why we were the better side.
