Why would Hampshire go there where he wouldn't get in the first 17 either?
The Wigan BOD would have to be out of their minds to allow him to leave after make-weighting Sean Long who then found his way to St Helens.
Talk about repeating mistakes.
If Saints sign Fages as is being rumoured that would put Hampshire even further down the line, unless he wants to play fullback there. Comparing the Hampshire situation to the Long one is ludicrous. Long was shown the door at Wigan after several disciplinary issues.
I know Long was shown the door, that's not my argument, he found his way to Sts & ran rings round our team for a decade or so
Its the fact that another halfback from Wigan, & with Rocky's promise, would be allowed to go to stains & possibly do the same as Long did
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
I get the vibe that Rocky is one of these youngsters who want everytime right now rather than bide his time and wait for his turn, i also get the feeling he probably has aspiration of playing in the NRL, i don't get this feeling about Williams, in Williams and nSmith we have a very good halfback partnership who could be here to stay for a good few years, stability at last, why risk that pertnership so Rocky can get his own way then bugger off to the NRL 18 months later, not worth it imo

Can you tell us how long George or Sam T had to bide their time?

Can you tell us if they played alongside another junior player. We've tried it before with Brown and Robinson and it failed. I could understand Hampshire plying alongside Smith but Williams and Hampshire is a no no for at least two more years.

With Lockers retirement nearly greater possibility the chance of these two at 6 and 7 is less likely.
Having two inexperienced half backs and potentially a young Bateman at loose is very risky.
I would love to see these two at 6 and 7 but I think when push comes to shove in games and we need to play smart their inexperience could show.
I would like to know the average age of halfbacks who have won the league/grand final?
I just don't see it happen, we are 1 win tonight offe 1st place, Smith technically doesnt deserve to be dropped.
I've just seen todays Workington team and Hampshire is not playing. Suspect that means he will be in the team for Friday. I would have thought that Thornley would have been given a game up there today as he is back in full training, maybe he's not quite ready.
If you had to pick who is letting the team down the most Smith or Williams, it would be Smith IMO. His defence at times v Saints was incredibly poor, loosing the collision on a regular basis.

Age is over rated.
When did a team ever perform consistently well with two 20 year old halfbacks? I agree about Smith his defence has been poor this last couple of weeks. I was speaking to a current assistant coach at a Championship club and he said he wouldn't play Williams and Hampshire regularly together. He like me would like to see them brought on slowly with the intention of them taking those spots together in two or three years, just as Leeds did with Burrow and McGuire.

Smith missed both tackles on Huddersfield's first two tries and he is a natural 7 playing at 7.
He doesn't however get the same flack off this site as Hampshire does as a 6 playing at 1.
