Some really interesting points here...

On the style of play - perhaps when we get our first choice 1, 6 and 13 in place that will improve. We had Gregson at 6 which might be a point in mitigation. Perhaps wait till Sam gets back in the groove and see how bored you are then?

On the salary cap - isn't that a broader issue? Perfectly valid, but am struggling to see how it can be an answer to a perfectly reasonable musing as to why the site goes into meltdown after a defeat but stays silent after a victory. Unless the line of argument runs that no defeat will ever be good enough because the systemic problems the game faces make it all worthless. I can see that line of argument, but it seems a pity. Incidentally, given how many more players they need, and he higher cost of living in the south, if we have half the union cap that should be enough (the NRL riches are the "problem" for mine).

On the Wakefield story - leaving aside the above, this result was a surprising and uplifting one. It answers the question as to whether the Wakefield game was genuinely a consequence of the bug the team were suffering. My reaction is one of relief and admiration. My 8 year old's reaction was one of delight and awe (so even though we may lose a 6 year old, we have a confirmed 8 year old in the plus column). I would never expect it, but it struck me that someone, somewhere who was apoplectic with rage about the club might put their hand up and note that perhaps Rads had a point. I remain bemused (putting it mildly) that anyone could question Rads' integrity after everything he has done for our club.

On styles of supporting - my father would obsess over the 6 in a 50 points to 6 victory. "Who missed that tackle?" He followed the team for 70 odd years, and the final conversation I had with him was about his all time favourite player - Hanley was marginally ahead of Boston. There is room for everyone, even those I disagree with.

On the coach - for fear of being labeled a happy clapper, I am firmly in the camp that thinks that we need a new coach, and that a lot of what we do is through force of personality and character within the squad rather than any tactical insights. At least it looks like we will have Sam back soon. He can coach us from full back.

My answer to Josie's question is that I commented on the defeat due to its score and the fact that I thought we should have gone for the postponment.
To have lads that ill and sending them out to play is plain wrong IMO. Also playing a 2nd rower at 6 when we have a fit and well career long stand off on loan at Cas was and is bewildering.
The RFL's role in this is dubious to say the least.
That they allowed Wigan to break the salary cap simply to aviod a fixture postponment is very questionable.
Didn't they realise that one day they'll do that and the team allowed to break the SC will go on to win the game.
What then will the losing club, forced to adhere to the SC, say when they have been beaten by a club breaking the SC with the RFL's approval?
Where will Super League's salary cap integrity go then?

I didn't comment on the game as I didn't go to the game as I didn't comment on the Cas win for the same reason.
I've been rather too ill to attend either and will miss the next few as well.

Sunday afternoon games we seem to lose a lot of over the past few years maybe Bilko can come up with some stats
I wrote about this in evening post around time Salford game moved. Can't recall exact figures but games on weekends had dropped from 60%ish 2010 (still majority despite a Friday home club) to about 25% this season. I've already seen good fans drop away from going. I think it's a massive, massive problem and know some good fans who have given up with these constant Thursday games especially.

Was not on about attendences .More on how many games we lose on a Sunday we seem to have our biggest defeats on a Sunday.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Rugby League in this country is dieing a death but I will never stop watching Wigan Rugby - why ???

Because it is in THE BLOOD

we could be playing on a park on a sunday morning as far as I ma concerned but I will still watch them

I had a go at the team for the Wakefield result which I am entitled to do ( but we where not given the full facts of the situation and that pisses me off )

Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White

I think we expect too much sometimes and we're taught that such greed is a good thing.

We expect Wigan to win without any bother but to be entertained in tight contests and to have all the best players in the world all on the pitch at the same time.

It hasn't been very entertaining this year so far. Our attack is broken and there have been some games in poor conditions that we've toughed out. I don't think it's wrong to want more entertainment, but I also don't think it's wrong to sometimes win ugly. Circumstances apply to all games.

You never hear the players or the coaches (publicly at least) saying it doesn't matter at this time of the year, unless they're trying to diffuse criticism. Even then, I don't think Wigan's players and coaches ever say it.

One thing I find strange is our most entertaining players almost always get slammed for any small mistake they make from making attempts to entertain whilst also trying to win. Why don't we stop that moaning if we all want more entertainment. Encourage the risky offloads, the surprise kick plays, the breaks from structure. But we want Wigan players to be perfect. they aren't. they never were. they are but mortals.
