In short; money spent on players wages for the games played last season were over the salary cap by £222k. Wigan were trying to take the mickey by the sounds of it. I think they were right to be punished. Where would it end? Deferring payments this season to next season and then the season after? It could go on forever had they not punished them this season.

Just hope were not over the cap for this year it explains why we were a bit thin on player pwer this year.
I dont think 9 players taking a pay cut would have made us under the cap anyway.
If they all took a grand a month for 3 months
3x9 ==27K

Erm..... no !

I would think that IF the club had paid ALL monies owing to players for 2006 then they would have been over by the 222314 quid.

But they didnt.They deferred them.

Yes that does mean that they are on this years figures, but so what ?

No doubt this time next year there will be stupid dumb fans of other clubs saying we have to include the 222314 quid again :doz:

Rob, if no rule existed then yes they exploited a lopphole BUT that is all. You cannot break a rule that does not exist. The RFL drafted a poor salary cap document. Yes, they should ammend it to close that loophole BUT you cannot punish those who identified the loophole and broke no rule.

The RFL come out of this episode looking incompetent. We must appeal and fight on. To accept a punishment for breaking no rule is crazy.

I know that i was just giving an example that if 9 players took a pay cut of 1k A MONTH it is a drop in the ocean.

To get near the cap they would have to have to took a cut of nearly 8k a man per month

It seems to me that the RFL were disappointed by being made to look like a bunch of muppets twice in just over a week and decided to punish us regardless.

Spirit of the cap? SL isn't a £$%*ing scout camp - we aren't trying to win best behaved troop flag. It is either against the law or it isn't. This is business and by the letter of the law we have not broken the cap. In much the same way that paying players offshore to fly over singapore isn't breaking the cap. However what we didn't isn't against tax law in this country. Are the RFL planning on punishing teams that break this law...

Think I'll mail's Sky's dancing monkey and ask him what he thinks - I am sure he can fit in at least on more anti Wigan rant.

What a surprise - Rob agrees with the RFL and against what everyone else says; I would never have seen that one coming...
