I found out on Friday that I was being made redundant and thought it was the end of the world.
The sad news of Mike's death today, at such an early age, puts everything in perspective.
My heart goes out to Mike's family.
RIP Mike

You may be gone big fella but you will never be forgotton.
That smile, that 'swagger', as joe lydon calls it.
That look of determination you had on your face whenever you wanted to get something done.
The way you looked after your boys and your family.
Not only were you an amazing player and a great potential coach but you were my inspiration as a human being.
You taught me so much, as you did many in your 43 years.
I have always been proud to call you my uncle and always will be.
It's killing me looking at Sam and Ben and knowing you won't see them grow old and that they will never see their daddy again.
You were the most amazing man I ever met and you will never be forgotten.
No matter how il you were, the first question you asked when you saw others was asking how they were. That was you all over.
Rest in Peace, and as you so often told others Take Care.
Always in my heart, never out my thoughts.
God Bless,
x

Thank you for all your amazing messages and words of support. Although they may seem insignificant to some, they mean a great deal to his family. My nan and grandad (mikes parents) have been on and seen some of the lovely things being said. It really is humbling.
Mike was a wiganer, he was one of you. He loved the town like no other but most of all he loved it's people.
I would tell him what was said on here and he was always overwhelmed.
The walk up Ben Nevis shows the true spirit of the wiganers.
You are an amazing set of fans, as are RL fans in general.
Thank you.

Just to add. During my time as a teacher at St John Fisher I ran a number of RL tournaments. At the end I bought trophies etc. The first competition had the Mike Gregory Victory Shield as its prize.

Devastating news. I suppose it was inevitable but just seeing him there as shadow of the man he used to be was hard enough to take, without thinking about when this day would come.
A tagically early loss and caused by a freak occurrence whilst away doing a job for his country.
R.I.P. Mike. My deepest condolences to your family.
