Cp at his level best. Barrett as a player was a class act. In Wigan he was the wrong player at the wrong time. Why do you recon Wigan shipped him out. Same reason Higham and Calderwood were no longer required. There can only be one manager and one captain. you harp on about Smith. Had Sammy not come through we were up the swanny when Smith got injured. Wigan performed as a team far better without Barrett. Won as many games without him as well. Great player but teamwork fell when he played. The same team won the league the following year without him. It is easy to say some of the lads learned from him. I would expect that to happen but the lads will learn from any class player. If that class player is deminishing the teamwork of lads does the team benifit. On the televised games I far preferred the games where Barrett was not playing as I prefer teamwork to class. Jim

Sam had already played first team before Smith got injured, to say we were better without him is laughable during his time here. Barret was a leader and was 2 steps in front of everyone.

We didnt ship him out he left...cant blame him with that coach either.

On what planet did Wigan ship him out?
He was far and away the best player in the years he played for us, never gave less than 100% and often won games single handed.

Barrett was a class act and for us has been the best stand off in the last 10 years, Barrett like many players had a choice stay and affect family life or go and save the family life, he wasnt shipped out he wanted out, the family didnt adjust over here simple as that, Smith has class but wasnt good enough to show it consistently, as for Sam stepping in he was a breath of fresh air and was unknown, Sam is also a class act (IMO will be the english Lockyer and WILL stay in our game)but lets not forget a lot of you even have pops at him throughout the season!!!

Judgement is a funny thing some people have it some people dont some people are original some are influenced, hey if we where all the same this forum would be boring!

LASTLY aint this post supposed to be about Gelling?

I find it absolutely ludicrous that anyone can question Trent Barrett in any way, shape or form! The man was a class act on the pitch and off the pitch in every way, without him we would have been far far far worse off. To say the club shipped him out is laughable and to be honest I wouldn't mind having him back now, well ok maybe it is 5 years too late. What a player, end of story.

I agree that judging Gelling before he's even put a foot over the touchline is a bit premature to say the least.
Give him a chance, but let's not expect him to solve Wigan's centre problems overnight, Gene Miles he's not, yet anyway.
IL put his cards on the table when he took on the club, local players mixed in with "quality" overseas talent. There's no doubting the first part has been a success but maybe the jury is still out on the second, especially now that Hoffman has returned to Melbourne.
p.s. I'm not counting Tommy & Pat in that, they were already here.

What do you base your statement on? Team sheet on the darkest superleague day in Wigan's history,
http://www.wiganwarriorsfans.com/wigan/ ... c&o=490332 I have thought for a long time that TB was called in by IL and fired. Told he could use any excuse but at the end of the season he left. Remember the rumours were of a dressingroom split, "your not fit to wear the shirt" Effectively Barrett was not then playing for Wigan but for his next position. Ask yourself why he was never captain apart from sharing the post with Fielden. Go back to the posts re the Huddersfield match and you will find my theory holds a lot of water. MOS, how ironic that would have been if it was awarded then later it came out he was no longer required. I do believe the problem at that period was a personality clash between Noble and Barrett. If a team player undermines the manager exit one team player. Jim
