Not a jot from him tonight that changes my mind over him being selected before Hampshire.
Last week Hampshire played as one of the top 2 Wigan players as I see it.
The same couldn't be said of Powell last night against a very average team.
I fancy me and you could have scored in last nights game.
Are Hull not better than Widnes PM?
Maybe not a lot in it TBW, but with the amount of ex Wiganers in the Widnes side the game against them is always more fiery if that's the right word. I feel that any match against Widnes is more like a derby type game for that reason and usually a battle to win. For Hampshire to stand out in that game was reason for him not to be dropped in the next games if it's based on merit.
People can say Mango played well on Friday night and I say that he did, but I also feel that if a player plays well in a game the week previous he shouldn't be dropped. What's going on inside a players head when he comes off the pitch knowing he's put in a real good performance to be then told mid week or whenever, that he's not part of the 17. I know that I wouldn't be happy.

Not that old chestnut of ex-Wiganers playing for Widnes..... again!

Look back at the teams and please tell me exactly how many ex-Wigan players played in that match. I think you will be shocked

I didn't check this time to be honest but I do know that in their squad numbers of 1 to 13 there are 6 ex Wiganers.
Do you feel that this has no reflection of how they would want to play against their off cast team, I certainly do and you seldom now see a walk in the park against Widnes.
I also think that Dennis Betts has a point to prove on match days.

Widnes probably played the best they have all season yet didn't win. Wigan were very average yet got the 2 points.

As for Hull, they were poor. Missing Shaul who was dropped, Sa, Yeaman, Pryce & Ellis to injury.
The 17 out there didn't appear that committed to the Hull FC cause and some of their tackling was awful.
Although they had almost a full team out against us last year when we had 9 missing. We won 16-44.

There's something wrong at that club. A Rugby League city with all those schools and amateur clubs yet they are poor every year.

What I liked about our game was the three man tackles for all game. We don't have the biggest forwards but they are fit and fast. Being hit by three of them every tackle has to take its toll. Also three tacklers prevents quick ptb's and leaves opposition teams with problems when their scooter hookers can't function.
A good all round performance.
I was also glad for the fans who went. They've had to put up with some right rubbish away from home. They were rewarded last night, pleased for them.

I don't think you can run a team as a pure week by week meritocracy like that.

For example suppose Burgess got a bit of a knock and missed a game. I don't care how well his replacement did in that one game Burgess has proved over the course of the season he's an automatic choice if fit.

His replacement should know that as well and will just have to bide their time.

I think Mango has also shown up as the better player of the two fullbacks so at this point of the season the better player gets the nod.

Where it goes wrong is if you have a coach who automatically picks the senior player just because they are the senior player. That was what Noble did.

Do you think the selection of Powell is one of senior player selection, one of merit or one of he fits a certain position better than other players.
I struggle to see where Powell fits in other than Wane liking him.
