The OP clearly states that Bowen not contesting the high ball is unforgivable and he's right, he clearly does nothing and it is unforgivable also in my eyes, even some kind of movement but he did nothing, he also had protection from Smith who blocked a taller player to the ball giving Bowen a one on one.

It was an awful attempt and one where it will take me some time to get over.
You win as a team and lose as a team, the problem is some of those players should not be in the team!

Far to many stupd offload attempts in our own half. no pressure on the kicker. Stupid decisions to run instead of taking an easy 2 points. Unable to convert numerous drop outs to points. Singling out one player for the loss serves no purpose and I'm sure he feels crap enough without the constant slating.
Who has singled him out for the loss, you could but no one has!!

Gelling being one Powell being the other both offered Wigan nothing and I'm Gellings biggest fan. The point im making is that some posters are very hypocritical but worse of all they put words in people's mouths.
Exactly!! People need to read the OP again before they get on their high horse!! There was absolutely no mention at all of Bowen costing us the match! Just the simple fact that his lack of attempt for the last try was disgraceful!

People on here read what suits their agenda or opinion far to easily and putting words in other posters mouths is laughable!!

Just to jog people's memory this is the OP by myself!!

I would love someone to explain how this translates into Bowen costing us the match! My English isn't great but obviously I am missing something!!

Look forward to the explanations!!

You assume you know folks opinions on the matter?
You don't know my opinion on the matter.
Point is he's gone from zero to hero to zero again in a matter of weeks. If we are fortunate enough to get to GF who should we play at full back? It's blatantly obvious to me that there is only one option. Furthermore we'll still probably only have one option next year, and given ST'S injury problems this year that is a big worry!
It is what it is, if he's not up to the job then that's not his problem if he's picked!!!
Well you did ask the question. He hasn't gone from 'hero to zero' - he simply confirmed what most/some/all/one (delete where applicable) of us thought. Excellent and inventive in attack - highly suspect in defence and dubious in big matches. He will doubtless play in the GF IF we reach it (and that's not a given) and it will be then up to the coach to ensure that we take players from other parts of the defence to protect him under the high ball. It's not the best way to enter a match, worried that a key defender will mess up but I suppose we don't have a choice.
Personally, I'd probably play Hampshire because I've seen Bowen under pressure.
I got told some while ago that Rocky doesn't get in the side regularly because his defence is not up to scratch. This would seem a reasonable explanation to his lack of opportunities if true. However if this is the case, to play him at full back is rather dumb?
BTW my original comment was tongue in cheek.
I think we have a bigger problem with a so called centre just given a four year contract, now that is what I do call dumb!!!

Just watch the replay on sky of the last try
I would have to agree with TBWs comments although I in no way feel Matty Bowen is to blame for the defeats (as we missed plenty of chances to put the game to rest) after watching the clip I don't understand why Bowen didn't even attempt to jump.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Nobody said he was to blame for the defeat, other posters assumed that was what my opening post meant but it didn't, thanks for agreeing Caboose, good discussion!!

It was said....... If he caught it we win if he missed it we lose.. If Im not mistaken that was said by SW....

Bowen has played well this season in parts and helped us to win some games. He has also helped us to lose games. His defence is very poor and thats the only consistency he has shown since arriving.
