Im sure a lot of coaches have said what Noble has about a youngsters before, just thats it's anti-Noble season, a new kid on the block and a 4-try game highlights it more. Perhaps post-match comments to the press should be positive and on sites such as warriors.com away from the media as such should make comments such as 'theres more to come'
Its over with now I think our attention should go towards St Helens. Realistically it's the same as a home game on a friday night against Salford - that being a league match... but being 'Magic' and saints its slightly different.
Im quite sick tbh of ainscough and noble now

so i shall refrain from reading and commenting on related threads until the chapter ends.

It makes absolutely no difference to the other teams whatsoever, they will all be fully aware of his strengths and weaknesses,
Noble can comment on Ainsy by way of encouragement but without massaging his ego. This may be his intention but I get the feeling his words are badly chosen if this is the case. Saying he is the best thing ever is probably not the best way of dealing with a young lad as Leeds showed with marcus St Hilaire and several others all those years ago.
He can praise Ainscough, but don't bring his faults into the public light?!?! :conf: :conf: :conf:

Not exactly Turf but there's a difference between saying 'the best is yet to come' and and saying 'he's doing ok but has plenty of faults such as...'. They both imply that he isn't the finished article but read differently.
Saying Ainscough is the best player ever and is totally amazing would be setting him up for a fall.

The bit in bold is like what Noble keeps saying, in other terms obviously but you know the idea.

In a sense I understand what you mean but had he said, 'there's a lot more to come from him' this would suggest that Noble is encouraging Ainsy to work on his game and get better. Noble's words seem to be excusing himself for dropping Ainsy and not at all intended as encouragement IMO.
Good point.
In the similar sense in the past Noble has been guilty of giving undue praise to players he loves and has no intention of dropping any time soon. Its all about Noble trying to justify himself to everyone.
That is certainly how it comes across.
What Noble should be doing is saying Ainsy is performing very will and will get even better. He should do this whilst acknowledging that his mistake in not picking him for a number of games last year means that he has areas of his game to work on which should already have been ironed out had this chance been given.
Well he will never acknowledge that and without the excuse comments that as you say are all about justifying his position, he would be admitting he was wrong in the way he has handled Ainscough who he first of all only included in the side because of suspension/injury and then when he decided he could play the "duty of care" card to drop him was made to look silly when he was forced to play him again.

I find Noble's comments rather unusual. And as I said earlier he seems to have got into a habit of always qualifying anything good Ainscough does with some negative criticism.
Maybe he does think he wants to keep the players feet on the ground but as gpartin has mentioned it seems more like he is justifying his position than simply commenting.
In fact looking at his comments after Wakefield again I find then quite harsh not just unusual.

Exactly, Dave, and he doesn't do that when commenting on any other player (except Sam Tomkins sometimes). It implies that he thinks all the rest are "the finished article", which is worrying.

Having read what many of you have said, surely the point at issue here is that Noble is clearly not as skilled at man management as one would expect from someone in his position. It could be argued that his comments about Ainsy are justified but the fact of the matter is that if you have a problem with a 'staff member' you sort it out in private, you do not publish it to the world at large so that it has a potentially detrimental effect on the individual. Clearly IMO Mr Noble is not 'the finished article' and should sort himself out first. I do however agree that many of Noble's comments appear to me to be attempts to justify his own position.
