No straw damn us wrote:The other things that the RU commentators do is focus on the positives in a game.
A 12 - 9 no try game will be described as superb defence.
You never hear about appalling defence if a team scores a try, they talk about the attacking side.
Compare that to Stevo, he will talk about why the try should have been prevented.
It's the old adage, if you tell people often enough many will believe you.
On that basis explain why football is so popular. Anybody who has watched MOTD knows the commentators are hyper critical.

Eddie and Stevo constantly say that Super League is the best its ever been citing the unpredictability of games. I would put this down to the fact that teams are able to lose a fair few games and still get in the playoffs and that most squads are made up of a few stars and loads of average players. Most clubs are very inconsistent due to the cap and having a bigger league with too few quality players to go around. Sky seem to think every decision the RFL make is great. Not hypercritical for mine!

sorry to reignite this topic about gaz but i read quite a few weeks ago in the WEP that an announcement on hock's future was goin to be released end of feb beginning of march, where now half way through march and still no signs of this announcement, think IL got shares in WEP and likes dangling carrots so we buy more

As I understand it, they're delaying any announcement because it's so close to the Terry Newton uproar.

I wonder what next months excuse will be! There been an "imminent announcement" since he got done! First excuse was wait until the formalities were out of the way (ban confirmed etc) now its Tez Newton. What next?

Fujiman wrote:The club should hang its head in shame if this is true. What sort of message does this send out to the younger generation. To do this whilst he is still banned is unbelievable. If this were to happen once his ban is over fair enough but now no way. I think the timing of this if true is completely wrong
He's done his time and hopefully learned his lesson. Plus, he's one of the best players around, attracting loads of interest from other clubs, so if it's true, we've just got to trust IL that the timing is right.
Also, prior to him getting banned there was all sorts of rumours going around about drug use and maybe the club should have been more proactive in dealing with the situation then, so in a way bear some responsibility. Either way, the message I'd take from this is that, there is a way back. Remember it's about rehabilitation, not retribution.

I really do wish the Lynch Mob out to get Gaz Hock would take a step down from the moral high ground, take off those rose tinted specs and look at the big picture.
By choosing to put stuff his nose, Gaz did not break any law, nor did he hurt anyone. And please DaveO, spare us all the usual diatribe about Organized Crime, Mafia, Money Laundering, International Terrorism etc. I am possibly more familiar with it than you are!
What Gaz did was to break the rules of the RFL and for that he has been banned for 2 years. 2 years which was not reduced to 9 days a la Lohan but 2 years. Not one year with release on licence for good conduct but 730 days which took away his ability to earn his living!
Lets remember, this is Rugby League not the YMCA, the Jehovah's Witnesses or the Amish and lets look at some other instances.
Greg Bird. Smashed a glass into his girlfriends face and had serious jailtime hanging over his head. Still, he was still OK for Super League and Les Cats didn't have a problem.
Ben Cockayne. Footage of him was linked on this forum showing him using another mans head as a football, twice!! IMO, he should still be behind bars but hey, he's good enough for Hull KR. Presumabley, they are taking on Willie Mason for the same rationale!
Sean Long. Triple Lance Todd, Man of Steel winner, and Rugby League Legend. Staggered out of Cassinellis, jumped all over a girls car and broke her jaw when she complained. He used that amusing little anecdote in his disgusting autobiography.
The round ball game has a plethora of similar stories. Joey Barton is the first that springs to mind but stay closer to home and look at Marlon King. Rightly sacked by Latics when he went down for assaulting a girl. Released last week and considering which clubs offer to accept!
Sorry guys, but by some comparisons, our Gaz is a bloody saint!!
