Good point cpwigan re. my comparison of Old Wingers who scored tries by the bucketful. I regret the passing of Old Wingers because their is nothing more exciting than seeing a winger, in full flight, beating all the oposition.
DaveO, I have have had opinions about players and referees for nigh on 60 years now - trouble is, I'm often proved to be wrong!
But, I agree, there is nothing like healthy debate.

Re: Karl Pryce
In some respects Bri the game changed for the worse when we lost that diversity of player based on physical size/strength/speed. The one model fits all players of the modern era makes things far more difficult today.BriH wrote:Good point cpwigan re. my comparison of Old Wingers who scored tries by the bucketful. I think where I see it Geoff is in the reaction of posters who belong to the group and their reaction towards other posters who do not belong to the group. Them and us seems to apply as to the right to have an opinion and be critical of one of the group. You succumbed and joined the cliqueGeoffN wrote:I'm not sure that's altogether true, cp - I've recently started going to the flag meetings and don't feel they're at all cliquey - in fact we have the same arguments with Rogues & others that we have online!cpwigan wrote:Unfortunately Dave I think a lot of the brilliant work done by RLfans Wigan lads (I defy anybody not to be impressed by the flag campaign) actually has a counter negative impact in that the posters meet in real life and become very good friends (nothing wrong with that) but then they in effect become a clique afraid to disagree with each other and trample on anybody who dare disagree by sheer numbers. You start to get the in jokes etc which new posters are confused by.
I think it's easy to see cliques where none really exist - in fact weren't some people a while back accusing you, me & DaveO of being part of a clique, even though we rarely agree about anything?![]()

I will hold my hand uand plead guilty but it can be hard for newcomers to get their voice across on any forum when the regular posyers are so long standing. Bringing new blood into any forum is not easy IMO.

Scrap that

Re: Karl Pryce
I was thinking re Pryce. Everybody expects him due to his sheer size to be a bulldozer but the more I watch him the more I get the impression that is not his go and he needs to be as light as he can and as fast as he can.
Re: Karl Pryce
Not really sure how quick he is these days - I'd love to see him make a clean break just to show us if he still has the pace he showed in his Bradford days.cpwigan wrote:I was thinking re Pryce. I'd like to see him use his height more, too.
Re: Karl Pryce
Very much Geoff. I think both his speed and jumping ability are linked to his weight. He looks better for having shed some weight and could lose more.
One big positive v Crusaders. More important than his tries IMO were the number of penalties he got for the team from his scoots.

Re: Karl Pryce
Looking at Pryce his legs appear disproportional to the rest of his body in that they are relatively thin. This maybe due to the injury and therefore the type of training he has had to do. However he is quite light on his feet for such a big man and slowly he is getting back to something like he should be.
Under the very old regime we would now have him working with the sprint coach to build up his speed and stamina but I'm not sure if that is happening at the moment. Certainly he is a very talented if somewhat laconic player, but if we can find that spark in him he has the ability to be as good as any other outside back in this country and is still just under 24 years of age. Verdict, getting better and worth another contract IF he keeps up his improvement.

Re: Karl Pryce
Dave O keep at em on RLfans. The fans arguing Pryce has somehow pushed himself ahead of Goulding in the pecking order should be ashames and embarassed of themselves. Goulding has done it over a full season thus far and against the best teams. KP has played a few games and mainly against poor opposition. Whatsmore Pryce is a lefty. Part of the problem with Noble was he kept playing him on the right. Had something not happened, Pryce would have been dropped. He wasn't and he is doing OK but Jeez some on there need a little perspective.
Rogues champions certain players and denegrates those players who play in a similar position. Macollorum - Piggy and now Goulding - Pryce.
