So is this for any player that has been at the club for ten years - or are we only allowed one player that is not counted?

Disappointed that George is retiring - was hoping that he might stay as cover for another year.
Eight years 50% of earnings to be included in the cap, Ten years zero %. This was part of negotiations by Wigan with the RFL to manage & make the salary cap work better for the clubs.

Was no point contacting you Matt re George as it is already in the posts. I too, am sorry he is finishing, he must be the best value player we have ever signed. Fantastic player :)

Sam Panapa must push him close.

I like IL's philosophy but to be continually successful we need to intertwine homegrown talent with qulity signings (either from abraod or other SL clubs). For instance there is a dearth of good centres in SL, at the club and junior level at the moment so bringing in a replacement for George, from Australia/New Zealand, would be sensible whilst others within the club's structure learn their trade (I have already assumed that Joel will be the long term replacement for Gleeson). Interesting to read IL's comment about Shenton - it is obvious that the club identified a need to recruit in this area even before Gleeson's departure and George's retirement.

My biggest worry is that, at the end of this season, we are going to lose a lot of valuable experience. It would therefore be adviseable if that loss could be tapered. For example to lose Deacs and Finch and then expext Mellor and Powell to fill the void may be asking too much - both are very capable in my view but they need gently easing into the team.

I am sure that IL and Waney have/will be mapping things out and planning a foray or two in the market. In these guys I trust.

Any signings? - joel will more than likely be turned into a centre, thinks he will make it and be world class, tried to sign shenton but saints payed more and didn't want to get into a bidding war, no chance of new signings in centre unless some one world class comes up, marsh needs to be given a chance but expects that next year

We should have got into a bidding war that would have reduced the amount of salary cap that Saints had available for other players!

LOL, apparently the lease is too good to be true. 50 years paying less than you could buy and maintain a stadium for... I wouldn't be considering buying either.
My understanding was that we paid 10% of our gate income to maintain the ground.

I think this is great but do the RFL know what they have agreed to? Lockers is relatively young and at the peak of his career so can still command a high wage I would have thought. So for ease of reckoning lets say he earns a top players wage of £160K. That would mean Wigan could spend £1.76m on the wages compared to clubs with no such 10 year veterans who could only spend £1.6m. It's a 10% increase on our cap!

I really think that this is the way it should be. I've thought for a long time that the cap is too strict and i actually think that this is the perfect loophole to loosen it. There won't be that many players doing 10 years for a single club and certainly not many of them as good a player as Lockers in terms of commanding a high wage. Provided that the excess cash isn't blown on overrated Aussies I see no problem with it. IL made it clear that he wants to even it out across the squad and I think the bonus for the younger players setting out in RL who can now actually make a living out of the game is invaluable.

I can only think of Sinfield who may be in a similar position. Senior and Wellens are probably off-cap but well past their 'best before' date!
