Meds, I like the idea of finishing 1st guarentees a place in the GF, would make weekly rounds more competitive at least early on in the season and hope it would continue through the season.

You can't have P&R as the economics just don't work but there the current play off system is bonkers.

If you are going to have a play off system the best format we have had is the top 5 system.

Under that system Leeds in 2011 would have had to beat every team who finished above them and would have played every game away from home.

Contrast that to what actually happened.

First game for them was home v Hull FC who finished 8th. In contrast we had to play Saints (who finished 3rd) the first week! Your reward for finishing higher in the league? A tougher first game in the play offs!

They then played Hudds and Wire away but never faced either us or Les Cats.

Under the top 5 they would have had to have beaten Hudds, Saints, Wigan and Wire in sudden death matches every week away from home (including the final in that of course).

I am starting to think the best place to finish in the current system is 5th.

That way you let the top 4 knock seven bells out of each other in week one and you get a home game against a team only good enough to finish 8th.

Who dreamt this idiotic scheme up? My bet is Mr N Woods.

I think Leeds have known that for some time now. If we don't win the GF, I'd like Leeds to win it from 5th again to push the point home. Then watch next season as teams all jockey for that magic position!

It really is a nonsense when 2/4 top teams commence the playoff with an away game and 2/4 at the bottom are rewarded with home advantage!

I know what you mean, but the only problem is that the RFL will still be happy because their beloved Whino's have won the GF again and Eddie and Stevo will both need a box of Kleenex at the prospect of being able to harp on, for yet another season, at how good Leeds must be in order to win the GF from 5th.
Sadly, the fact that it shows what a mockery the current format is, will be completely ignored and all focus will be on the super duper Leeds Whino's

The biggest joke is that you lose your home advantage if you lose a match. You've spent all year building up that advantage and you lose it in one match. Stupid.

We can have a top 8 playoff, but the top four should all get the first week off whilst the 5-8 teams playoff for the 5th spot. They have to play two matches in a week - sunday then wednesday. Then we play a top 5 with the winner of 5-8 playing on sunday. Not fair? - well do better in the league then. It would only cost one extra week of time so would fit into the schedule.

The sad thing to me is that we have jeopardised our position in the league earlier in the season by losing to a Widnes side who eveerybody was beating up for fun and a Bradford side whom we should never have lost to. Wire completely outplayed us and deserved to win but it should not have mattered to the extent that it does. We can blame irrelevant Exiles games, poor reffing or anything else you like but the fact of the matter is that the league leaders shield (which should be the premier prize for me) may well go elsewhere because we have takeen our eye off thee ball at crucial times.

agree totally, relegation is a must so there is some interest for the bottom teams. The games is losing money hand over fist & the RFL have their heads buried in the sand.It is a great game but run so badly it is not true.
