Ben made a huge mistake BUT a match official made even bigger mistakes (plural). We were simply never meant to win and did too well in the first 40.
It was not just about last night, this started in the previous week. Wane acknowledged it then. Post match, he did well to throw out the cliches rather than tell the truth (no point in RL). I daresay privately he is seething.

Of course not
Just as 5 minutes holding down a player in a professional foul after they make a break is not a sin binning.
Forget Flower, the bastards did us!
Never meant to win tonight
Too simplistic you can go back further to flower throwing Hohia to the ground seconds before hohia elbowed him. The first punch was enough he made it too easy for the ref. one punch = 2 x yellows IMO but when you do something like that you make a victim and a victim rarely gets punished
I don't think the refereeing was that bad too be honest
Pettybourne got punished for getting punched. 2nd punch was out of order but likes been said out of character for Flower

If someone runs in and elbows you in the face your natural instinct or emotion as you call it, is naturally triggered in to fight back. Flower's instinct was natural for that first reactive punch, the second one he should have backed away from, but when you're fired up in an atmosphere like that its difficult to hold back.
Had Flower been knocked down on the deck as a result of Ohia's elbow then Ohia may well of been sent off.
IMO had roles been reversed here and had it been a wigan player running in with the elbow and a saints playing punching a wiganer there would have been 2 players sent off with both teams playing 12 apiece. Hicks was the touchy that gave the nod to the ref for Flower to go, he failed to give the full story, but like I've said on here before that bloke is a fan of St Helens. 12 against 12 and we would have hammered them.

phild=flower did contribute to the loss but the forearm smash was out of order by ohioa Ben's first punch was enough and put him on the canvas but the second was a red card.I still thought they might still do it but mistakes cost Wigan dearly.Wigan Will have to invest in a fullback one who can kick goals.Matt Bowen is past his sell by date, once a great player, wish he was starting his career instead of his twilight.

I didn't think the refereeing was too bad TBH. I don't buy into cps conspiracy theory. Its a bit crazy IMO.
We had more than enough chances to win that game regardless of any decisions but it didn't work out for us.

Thank God for some sense Mike!!!
I, like everyone else, is reeling from the events of last night but reading some of the nonsense written on here just makes it worse.
If you genuinely believe that there was some conspiracy against us last night, you're wrong.
If you think Bentham's refereeing was poor or biased, you're wrong.
If you think Hohaia (sp) should have been sent off too, you're wrong.
If you think the RFL have orchestrated a Saints win, you're wrong.
If you think that it was anything other than the writing being on the wall after 2 mins, you're wrong.
Ben Flower did something reprehensibly stupid and it cost us the match and the League. It was the reddest of red cards, they don't make cards red enough for what he did. Wigan, like the champion team they are, battled until the last half an hour where they ran out of steam against a massive pack who steamrollered us up the middle and gained huge field position and momentum. That gave them the opportunity to score and they managed to limp over the line.
It was a woeful display by Saints but it was just enough against 12 men.
13 a side it could have been very different but we'll never know.
I just wanted to give my two pennies worth and hopefully stifle some of the absurdity that I read on here sometimes.

But why a yellow.
Direct deliberate contact to the head is a sending off offence. So Flower was correctly sent off on the 1st punch alone.
But please tell me why the Saints guy did not. He ran from a distance raised his elbow and contacted with Flowers head. That is a sending off. Or is the rule changed and you can get away with elbows to the face in a GF. Wire tried it and got away in the game but Westwood got a ban for it.
People can not just blame Flower for the lose Bentham should have sent Hohia off as well. Interesting for the disciplinary tomorrow, will we see the RFL punish Flower only but will they bring Hohia in as well and basically tell the world that Bentham got it wrong. Or will they bottle it and punish Flower with a 4 game ban only and let both Saints and Bentham off the hook.
We all know the anser to that ig Hetherington could tell you the answer to it. RFL will protect the ref tomorrow as usuall.
