I have never really feared Roby when we have played Saints when MM was playing opposite. MM has always seem to keep him quiet.
KFC was a different kettle of fish and a dangerous player.

Exactly, KFC was better and Roby used him to make himself look better, without him he is not as good as people think in my opinion and like I keep saying in the truly big games when he needs to be counted he is found wanting, except against 12 men for 77 minutes with no MM bullying him!

Robins stats are amazing and he looks good when you watch them the only hooker in the same league as him at the moment is houghton they are in a class of 2, 40 - 50 tackles per game whilst maintaining an attacking threat.
I rate MM I think he's a good hard rugby player but he is not the best hooker in the league I have even said a few times I would convert MM to a 13 and sign a quality go forward 9.
Remember piggy?! He was a breath of fresh air.
dont win a lot with him, Cunningham was one of the reasons Saints were so good, he carried that pack.
Excatly, Roby has also played in some good Stains teams still and won nothing with them!
Flat track bully!
When push comes to shove he goes missing, as his record suggests!

I cant believe im defending a Saints player here but im sorry Roby does not go missing for Saints he puts a shift in every match ive seen him play for them
stats dont tell the whole story as we know but if you average the last 5 seasons MM vs Roby
Roby averages double the tries, over 4x the assists, double the tackles over double the carries and well over double the meters.
People may point to the fact roby is generally a 80min to MM 40 but roby manages to over double MM's stats even with playing longer minutes.
This isnt slagging off MM i think he is a top player, but anyone casting aspersions over Robys credentials is not on, he's a top top player. I think a lot of fans still hold the MOS fiasco against him but he has been a far better player post that award than during or pre it.
His powers may be on the wane but he is still a good player and has enjoyed abit of a revival this season
Here's the last point to add, i dont think many (if any) saints fans would say their team is better when roby isnt playing. Wigan fans are split on whether MM has been outperformed by a make-shift 9 halfback. Personally i think we are a way better side when MM is on the field but opinion is split

No one is doubting his desire but tell me the last time other than against Widnes, London Broncos etc. and especially at the business end of the season did you think wow Roby absolutely destroyed a top team in a big game? Including against us!
This isn't about MM and a comparison anymore, I just think he is overrated!
Stats are misleading as well, his are probably enhanced against lesser teams!
In my opinion he is overrated, yes he has been a good player but not that good!

Fair enough guess we will have agree to disagree on that one, i understand what your saying but i don't think a single player especially a hooker ever singlehandedly destroys a team, i can't remember ever thinking that about MM for example.
I think his best days are behind him but i do think he has enjoyed a little revival this year.
Personally i actually think McShane has been the stand out hooker of the year

I agree about MM he will never destroy a team and look like a world class player because he isn't, but what his strength is is stopping good/dangerous players playing like Roby and many other good hookers over the years. Someone like Cam Smith who is a top top player would get the better of MM because he is a top top player, something Roby struggles to do and has done for many years. Yes I agree he looks more extravagant and a more fluent hooker than MM but he flatters to deceive in my opinion!
What sums it up for me is this and DaveO touched on it earlier, when we play Stains and MM is playing I don't worry about Roby at all and never have, if we were playing against Cam Smith I would be and back in the day KFC, even Houghton, Buderus etc. in recent times in a nutshell when the going gets tough I would have MM all day long in terms of SL.

He's had 10 years, we've seen players twice as good stay for far less time

You keep saying it but it doesn't make it true. And I've never seen McIlorum 'bully' Roby either. Our pack, however, is generally on the money defensively against Saints.
Well one thing is for sure I have never seen Roby 'bully' or even play well against MM!! Correct me if I am wrong!!
