I find Noble's comments rather unusual. And as I said earlier he seems to have got into a habit of always qualifying anything good Ainscough does with some negative criticism.

Maybe he does think he wants to keep the players feet on the ground but as gpartin has mentioned it seems more like he is justifying his position than simply commenting.

In fact looking at his comments after Wakefield again I find then quite harsh not just unusual.

Dave
Exactly, Dave, and he doesn't do that when commenting on any other player (except Sam Tomkins sometimes). It implies that he thinks all the rest are "the finished article", which is worrying.
What he actually said, according to League Express, was,
"He's got superb prowess. He's strong, he's quick and he knows how to finish. He'll be the first one to compliment those who put him in those positions because I don't think he's had to run more than 10 metres for any of his tries, but we've seen some of his fantastic breaks. There's no doubt that he's still a work in progress and there are other parts of his game that he needs to improve on. That goes for all our young kids. We're a young team."

I think too much is being made of what Noble allegedly said after a match. The above quote may have been said to a different reporter or it may be a more accurate account of what was said to a group of reporters rather than the edited version that most people on this board have taken offence to. In short, don't believe everything that you read, it probably will be a load of b------s.

When Noble said about Ainscough being the first one to praise the players who set him up with the tries because he only had to run 10 metres.

That makes him sound as if AInscough didn't have to break sweat to score the tries. That's even worse than the original load of cr*p Noble spouted about being a "work in progress".

If you want to see Ainscough get real praise from a real coach, then take a look at the article on the wigantoday.net website, entitled, "Kear tips Ainscough for top".

Well said John Kear. That's my reaction to the article. :eusa2: :eusa2: :eusa2:

From "Bailey's Blog"
Once again I’m writing this blog and can’t help but mention Ainy. Another four tries for the guy says it all, I know some people will say all he had to do was put the ball down but believe me those tries took some scoring and he made it look easy. It is great to have a winger like that in your team. He’s now joint favourite with Chris Hicks for top try scorer, had you put a bet on him before the start of the season I’m sure the bookmaker would have asked “who?!”

In addition to all his words of praise, John Kear also adds in the League Express, "He certainly looks an exciting talent but he's still got one or two areas he needs to improve on....."

I don't believe that Shaun Ainscough's temperament and personality are so brittle that he will be unduly discouraged by constructive criticism!

It should be noted that Noble also mentioned "We've seen some of his fantastic breaks."

I don't think he is being anything but even-handed in this interview.

I think he accepts criticism when it is given to him and he tries to learn + improve from it. He looks a good enthusiastic, quick learner and looks keen to learn as well.

Nice to see Phil Bailey praising Ainscough in his weekly blog by the way.

Compare what Bailey said to what Noble said. "Tries still needed scoring" compared to "....I don't think he's had to run more than 10 metres for any of his tries,"

Talk about damned with faint praise. It doesn't read as constructive criticism to me and I fail to see when talking to the press any reason why Noble has to mention anything negative at all!
