i would guess, given the way the club has stood by hock, that gleeson had been offered help by the club after his last few run ins and has either denied he had a problem or has refused their offers of help. would be slightly wrong for the club to offer so much help to a player caught taking cocaine and none to one with a drink problem. i would bet gaz admitted immediatley he had a problem and took up all offers of help and gleeson hasn't and thats why its come to this.

I am not sure that some of these comments are wise ,since I know them to be less than 100% correct. Should we not give this a rest until the club make an offcial statement

Just remember everyone, we dont want the site getting in trouble or an order for slander dropping through letterbox. Just be careful what you post and not speculation

Whatever he has done he is human and there is not a person on here who hasn't done something stupid in their time, ok there are degrees of stupidity and am not about to argue that one. The guy has clearly got himself in a mess and I don't doubt the club will do all in it's power to help him regardless of whether he is on the payroll or not. It is not so long since the tragedy of Terry Newton so please folks let us not forget that. Can this thread not be locked until something official is said as speculation can easily get out of hand and doesn't do anyone any good.

Whatever the outcome. Glees does have properties, he does have finances to fall back on. IIRC, Hock rents one of Glees old apartments (well a new spanking one in Upholland). So Glees is not penniless. Far from it.
I think the RFL and all the clubs incl Wigan have an obligation to help players who have issues. In many respects, I think far too many clubs have turned a blind eye if a player was very talented etc and that has in the long run IMO not helped such players. There is IMO still one rule for the best players and the average / mediocre ones can go to hell which is totally wrong.
Ultimately, I think it is the RFL either through or with the benevolent fund / players union that need to have programmes / help in place. Nobody ever wants a repeat of Terry Newton.
It is important to remember that sometimes people will not accept help. I know several people have tried so hard to help Glees but if somebody will not accept help what can you do?
The RFl or the club have to ask themselves if they took decisive action early enough in a payers career would they have benefitted that play (THAT PERSON) far more.

Just to clarify any speculative rumouring, whilst this maybe another one of RL's worse kept secrets, as yet Wigan RFL have not confirmed or for that matter denied that Gleeson has indeed been sacked.
I am sure that if true, that the club will confirm in due course. I know a few posts have already been edited due to unsuitable content, so lets stick to the known facts please.

I was always against the signing of Gleeson, not just because I have always thought him to be a vastly overated player, but also because of his off field activities and attitude. If all that is rumoured is true really think that the signing has blown up in Lenegan's face.

I know what you mean but I daresay the GF win will be justification.
