Re: Shaun Wane & Iestyn Harris
Michael Maguire had nothing but praise for Shaun Wane last night & said Shaun had made his job very easy here at Wigan.
In fact he got quite emotional when speaking of leaving us.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Shaun Wane & Iestyn Harris
I don't think anyone disagrees with any of that but there is a difference between a coach being given free reign to sign whoever he likes and a coach saying he does not want a player. If a coach says he doesn't want a player the chairman should not sign him.gpartin wrote: I am a firm believer in a coach having freedom to pick the team from the players he has available but the coach doesn't pay the wages and shouldn't be given a free rein when it comes to signings however if we are signing Lauki I think Shaun Wane may well have been involved in this somewhere along the line because I think Wane probably wants to toughen us up a bit.
You may well be right over Lauki but I can't believe Wane has the slightest interest in signing Thomas, Flowers or Dudson.
Also if Wane doesn't want Harris as assistant then again, the chairman should not force him accept him as assistant.

Gaz;gpartin wrote:He may have done well with our second team over the years but the idea seemed to be that he would do three years as an assistant before taking over from Madge so in actual fact he is being given a chance a year early when IL would have been well within his rights to go for someone with more experience and perhaps the lower contract offer initially reflected all this? A good coach will work with the players he is given and turn them into the type of players he wants, Madge hardly made any squad changes and look at what happened. The 'it's not his team' arguments were banded about in defence of Brian Noble for a long time after he took over and Madge proved that this doesn't matter as much as people made out. I am a firm believer in a coach having freedom to pick the team from the players he has available but the coach doesn't pay the wages and shouldn't be given a free rein when it comes to signings however if we are signing Lauki I think Shaun Wane may well have been involved in this somewhere along the line because I think Wane probably wants to toughen us up a bit.
IL was trying it on. He tries it on money wise with everybody and anybody which is why he is so wealthy. It may come back to bite him in the next year or two.
It does not matter how good a coach you are if the players are not good enough. The players at Wigan were good enough under Brian Noble and good enough under Madge. It could even be argued that Millward was unlucky to lose Lockers and Hock with season ending injuries.
The coach has to structure his game plan to the players he has available. You have to work with what you have got and gets the best out of it. Coaches at any level need to understand you cannot ask or expect somebody as thick as pigshit to play a complex game etc etc
The owner? The owner should have no input into anything re the team bar can we afford what you want, yes/no.

Coles has been one of my all time favourite Wigan players, a 100% no questions asked player who gives what he takes and much more.
Victoria will no doubt be proud of him.

I see on on the BBC Sport website that Harris has said that we're one of a number of options ... one of a number of options! We're Wigan for heavens sake
