Do you know what exactly happened??
Who is this "instigator" you're referring to??
How do you know what punishment has been handed out to the "instigator" as you put it?
We know what the club has told us. That should be sufficient. They should be commended on their handling of this incident & the outcome.
I know that I am very happy to know that John Bateman will remain at the greatest club in the world, Wigan Warriors ????????
Let's now forget about it, get on with watching our great game & stop pointing fingers ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Disagree with just about all of that Josie!
It involved another player, the club said so and yet only one player has been punished. It's no use saying they might have been, officially only one player has been yet two were involved in a "fracas".
Which is why what the club has told us is NOT sufficient. Why? Because it leaves people asking the obvious question why wasn't the other player punished and given the often made accusations of favouritism it just stokes that kind of fire.
People are happy Bateman hasn't been sacked, me included, but just because our worst fears have not been confirmed doesn't mean the club has come up smelling of Roses in this.
For a start they might ask themselves what sort of bonkers idea was it letting the players go to a booze fuelled event like the races mid-season. It went downhill from there never mind what has gone on afterwards.
Once in wigan I got kicked in the head. I had just been standing there and got kicked in the head from behind. I ended up on the floor and that was the end of it. There were witnesses and I wasn't arrested or investigated but the other guy was. The other guy was found guilty and fined.
That was a fracas, but with only one person the attacked and one person the victim. So unless we *know* that this sort of thing didn't happen we can't really complain can we?

Call me a cynic but I do feel the whole saga is far from over, also hearing a lot whispers still that Bateman will not play again for Wigan. Obviously I don't know how much truth is in these whispers, and I really hope there not true

Some people don't want it to be over because they are not Wigan fans and like to see our club in turmoil. For me it is completely over and JB will be a fantastic player for years for our great club! Call me an optimist or a realist, either I am comfortable with!!

But we don't know. The other things is which seems to have escaped people is there are obviously no criminal charges coming up.
Your assailant was fined after due legal process. Wigan have decided they are in effect, judge, jury and executioner.
I don't doubt Bateman was involved in a "fracas" but all this talk of an "investigation" is a little bit self righteous on the clubs part IMO.
Unlike Flower, who's assault occurred on the pitch making this a grey area for criminal charges, Bateman's fracas was in public and if the police had evidence of assault he'd be in the dock. Just as your assailant was.
The police clearly have no such evidence, so how come Wigan know better?

I imagine everything has been done to the letter of emplyoment law. I see no evidence that anything hasn't. And you are right - we don't know what happened, we don't have any evidence that the club is in the wrong, but you seem to be assuming there is a problem here.

Too much said. Can we talk about Rugby for a change rather than law and speculation?
