Mad though it sounds, we were applauding the TV when he scored it. A massive shout out to Liam Marshall, playing better than ever. His tracking down of Sezer, as he wandered across the pitch, contemplating a killer pass was just the best part of the evening.
Congratulations to Byrne who seems to have turned his career round by cutting out mistakes and making yards and Smithies who ignored some half-hearted Leeds provocation.
Still wish Bateman would pass more - look what happened when he did and Bibby doesn't look happy at left centre. He constantly overran the ball and maybe Zak would do a better job.
Still, if we can win with not everything perfect, then it's great.
Said the same at the game! Don’t know why the switch from him being on the wing but whatever I’m just happy to see the way the team are playing as a unit & playing what they see 😊 Very happy bunny

although i think zak is better at centre i feel bibby isnt the best under the high ball so zak is a better option

I agree with Firestarter, Jake was a liability under the high ball at times last season and we just can't afford to gift other teams easy points. Perhaps he will improve at centre with more games but, at present Zak is a safer bet on the wing. Perhaps Miski will get a chance on the wing soon so we could then move Zak back to centre. Later in the season we still have the possibility of shuffling the backline with Thornley and/or Bevan. Really pleased with the improvements shown by the team so far and the fact that they look so much happier this season. It's still too early to think we may challenge for trophies but we're so much better to watch. Well done to the players and coaching staff.

Wonder if minski (spelling ?) is going to get a run out soon?

It’s a good position to be in not knowing how players are going to get in the squad though means you’ve got good depth

I think a few players will get a chance at toulouse….. smith oli miski come to mind….. hopefully peaty will play one backup player every now and again for experience…… no good throwing them sll in at once like lammy did….. confidence comes from performing snd being surrounded with better players…… the future looks very good

Ellis: Keep getting better

Kaide Ellis gave his thoughts after making his home debut for the Club.

Ellis: “We’ve got to keep getting better and we can’t get complacent.”

FT | Wigan Warriors 34-12 Leeds Rhinos.

Kaide Ellis spoke to wiganwarriors.com after making his home debut for the Club as Wigan ran out 34-12 winners over Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

Ellis started by mentioning the crowd, with 12,500 at the DW Stadium to watch the Warriors: “I thought it was a great turnout considering the weather conditions. They were very loud, very passionate and it was good to have them jump on the back of us when we were playing well, scoring tries. We could feel every bit of energy, it was exciting and we can’t wait for the rest of the year.”

The Warriors found themselves 6-0 before turning the scoreline around to a 12-6 lead before half-time: “We addressed at half time, we thought we were good but could’ve been a bit better. It was probably a bit of a slower start than what we would have liked, the first 10 minutes needed cleaning up a bit and to be more clinical.”

On his involvement in Cherry & White so far, Ellis said: “I didn’t want to feel like I had the right to walk in, I wanted to earn it and I think I did. In saying that, the depth that we have at the Club in the front row – it’s tough, there’s times where I thought I wouldn’t be in there with the young lads pushing me.

“It’s a good mix, there’s a lot of young lads and Paddy (Mago) as well, so I think myself and Singo (Brad Singleton) starting really brings a difference to the team with good options off the bench. Paddy is there to come on, he’s got the offloads, he’s been working and he’s doing his job well – we all compliment each other which is good.”

Following the win, the forward admits that he does need to do some work on learning the winners song: “I need to get some lyrics, I can’t understand people so I haven’t picked it up yet. I need to get some lyrics and read them I think, so I’m a bit slow on that one.”

Reflecting on 2022 so far, he finalised: “It’s the perfect way you want to start. There are always bits to work on, we’re not happy with just winning, we want to keep getting better. We have a quality side across the park from 1-30 so it’s going to be a big year but we can’t hang our hat on that at the moment. Two from two is unreal but we’ve got to keep getting better and we can’t get complacent, that’s the attitude we bring every day so hopefully, it’s going to be a good year.”

See the Warriors in action at the DW Stadium once more as they return next Thursday 24th February to face Huddersfield Giants for Round 3 of the Betfred Super League. Tickets are on sale now and can be bought HERE.

I don't know if this strikes a chord with any one else, but I remember the dog days under Lam when a bad result on a Friday night seemed to put a damper on the whole weekend; it was what every one was moaning about it the pub on Saturday, etc. (and, to be fair, that happened a few times in the Wane era too. Difference was, then there was a realistic hope that it would be better next week, and it often was).

Whereas this weekend, I feel like I've been walking around with a stupid grin on my face most of the time! :D

Still much to be done, for sure. But we couldn't ask for a much better start.

Moto - you have that right. The last few years it wasn’t just the performances being dull, it was that there was no sign of them improving. Here we have an entertaining team, who may have off days but who are set up to remind us why we follow the game.

Their winger ran around Marshal (who is no slouch), yet Field's cover tackle was sublime. He looked like he was jogging over until he decided to tackle.

Great to watch.

Bateman also put in a shift last night which was nice to see.
The reason he was jogging was to time his tackle and show the winger the outside.

If he sprinted directly at him / across, the winger would have stepped inside with Field with ease.
I am aware of that. It was the ease at which he could cover the ground that was impressive.

Once bevan got injured last season, our attack was none existent…we were entertaining the season before……. I personally got the impression that all lams attacking rugby was centered around bevans link up with hastings…….. basically no plan b
