I agree and it’s nice to debate someone who actually responds to the points made

I’m retort there are a few areas where I think myself and chariots disagree that aren’t as much debatable as they are differences in opinion

My view is 9 is one of if not the most important role in the pitch so I’d be happy to divert resources to getting a better one - for example I’d rather have a poorer second row and better hooker but either one has merits

There are a couple of points though I’d argue back in

The idea powell has talent it just needs bringing out - he’s 30 - he isn’t getting any better now the slide you talk of the others on - is the same one powell will be in yet starting from a lower point

What you do at school boy is sadly many many players never go on to be anything in the professional ranks after impressive junior records

The other point on O’Neill fighting it out with Sam for the 9 jersey - I’d be happy with that too but I get the feeling that unless Sam is injured he plays - so that’s not a fair fight

We will see soon because O’Neill has been in great form and should remain in the team but I’m putting money on him being chucked as soon as Sam can play. In addition we seem to be against a 9 rotation that involves 2 9’s usually shorrocks is put on the bench as either an emergency 9 or We move around the back line to get Cust in at 9

But I’d Powell plays he will usually barring injury play 80mins which is going to serious limit O’Neils chances
I know people dont want it to be true but he is painfully average and just doesnt contribute enough for a top team hooker. Its not just the national team he is over looked - he's no awards to his name either - you know the recongition from your peers - when was the last time he won MOM or was the stand out player? if you cant stand out playing 80 mintues touching the ball more than anyone else surely that says something
He was voted Players Player of the Year in 2016 😊

Was that the year he covered for the injured Mickey Mac? in which case 100% valid - in the sense he kept us going that year, but in the same way a space saver tyre can get you home and you thank your lucky stars you have one - you wont leave it on and drive your car full time using it

I just worked out that there have only been two or three threads with more posts than this one over this season!

If Mike wants to increase advertising revenue (scantily-clad overweight Chinese women anyone?) he should push the Powell thing even more. What about a Powell category to replace Rumour Mill or Off Topic?

Maybe you've already realised this, Mike, and use the nom-de-plume W..... to keep the punters clicking?

Does anyone know when Sam will fit and available for selection?

In the Cust injury update, it was suggested he would be fit for the play offs.

I thank you for your good natured debate and whilst we might not agree on everything (a common factor in RL) we do agree on one major issue - we want Wigan to be the best. To be honest, I am not concerned who the coaches pick to represent us I just want us to win. Enjoy the match on Friday.

Wigan Warriors: Sam Powell looks ahead to his 250th appearance for the club

Sam Powell says he feels privileged to represent Wigan Warriors as he prepares to make his 250th appearance for the club.

The hooker made his senior debut back in 2012, with his latest outing set to come in Friday’s play-off semi-final against Leeds Rhinos.

Powell states he owes a lot to the people who have been around him throughout his career so far.

He said: “It’s great for me personally, the club means a lot to me. It’s everything to me and my family, so individually it’s a great milestone.

It’ll be a special moment for myself, and my thanks goes to the coaches I’ve had over the years, as well as the players I’ve played with.

“The time since my debut has gone really quick. The standout moments are the trophy wins and the Grand Finals, but it’s a privilege every time I step out for Wigan to be honest.

“As a player you get caught up with playing week in, week out, so some stuff I will only really reflect on when I finish.

“I’ve got plenty to go yet.”

Following a spell on the sidelines through injury, the play-off match at the DW Stadium will mark Powell’s return to action.

“It’s been a frustrating time for me, getting injured at a crucial period of the year, but my foot feels great now, so I’m just happy to be back training with the lads and to be in contention,” he added.

“A lot of hard work has gone in during the last five weeks to get myself right, so I’m pleased that I’m here and hopefully I can get selected, and hopefully we can get the result.

“It’s a big occasion for the club itself, because to get to another Grand Final would be awesome. As a team, as long as we play well, we deserve to be there.

“Once you get a taste of these occasions, it definitely makes you want to get there again. We’ve got a bunch of lads with a really close bond.

“We’re not skipping past this week yet because it is going to be a tough game, so our focus is all on Leeds.”
