Pickets were out again yesterday. According to the Observer, the unions have again rejected an offer which had been improved by 0.6%
Reading between the lines, it would appear Heinz are looking at alternatives because they have “reassured that supplies of Heinz family favourites will continue to be available”

Seems to me that before long, their offer will be a pay cut. Of 100%!

First and foremost I am incredibly saddened to see our spineless politicians baulk on their promise of making the bank pay. Garbage. The banks owe Joe Public and the former government big time even those that benefitted indirectly. So my mood is tempered by that news.

Alas. The workers at Heinz need to be very careful and I sincerely hope they do not destroy a fantastic source of jobs / income for many deprived areas of Wigan. If the greed of the present employees destroys the futures of young Wiganers then they deserve to be named / shamed and treated no better than scabs.

Where will it stop £2000 bonus scheme and 3.5% for a workforce with atrocious attendance records. How on earth / why can any Heinz worker take a day off but for serious medical illness. The job is a doddle and yet ther employees take the P by swinging the leg with alarming regularity and demanding more, more, more.

bloody students again. when I was a student my understanding of being a 'student' was to a) pay tuition fees b) turn up to lecture c) study d) take exam e) go home.
Find it funny how 'students' moan about things in life when all they know is an educational system the same for all (more or less). Plus they're probably moaning because their stereotypical 'beans on toast' will become a bit dearer to buy.

I have had no %age increase in my job for 4 years, I have had the same salary and not moaned because that is what it pays. My employer has made £135 million so far this financial year and I would be stupid to ask for more. ASDA beans are cheaper anyway

I hate Union politics, I think things need to change, either Unions can not pay any party donations so they are independant to the people not tied to any one party (whether that be labour torie lib dem raving loony party) or Union representatives should not get paid by the Union/Company when they go on strike.

I find the principle/situation both patronising and hypocritical when Union leaders try to reac havoc by getting hard working individuals to strike and not get paid for days, weeks some cases months why they still take home a salary.

If you want a pay rise grab your b*lls walk in to your boss/managers office and discuss it if it does not come off so be it carry on or look for a better job.

Before anyone has a go for all the situations that you truly need your union rep and they come good for you I have nothing against thats what they are their for you! Although these are usually isolated incedents rather than mass strikes etc.

I think a Union, an outstanding Union Rep can be so vital. Unfortunately, there are plenty away from the shop floor who are just as bad as the bosses you work for sitting in plush offices on a gravy train at your expense.

Exactly for isolated incidents they can be awesome but the ones in a plush office take orders to upset things for the bigger political picture, there should be no bias to a party from unions they should not be allowed to donate (that way they would be unbiased and serve best to the people when the people need them not the other way around) or they should not be paid when on strike (then they go throught the same as the people so again they would think hard and only take action when neccessary) that way us the people would get the best from them. I think their is a place for Unions but IMO the legislations around them is wrong for my reasons above.
