Hmm, a team who should have gone out of existance last year yet still avoid being pulled for any salary cap breaches... No-one's going to convince me that all's fair and square with that team for last year. They've got money this year, so I've no complaints, but their finances must have been all over the place for last season. But of course the RFL wouldn't let anything happen to their beloved London franchise...

It only goes to prove that the top brass are well and truly envious of the fantastic support Wigan are receiving - they are doing their utmost to make sure we are humiliated into being relegated. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Come on Wigan...let's show 'em all by winning the last five games.its fully up and solid

He signed in October, after the season had finished.

I have always been against the cap on the grounds that it restricts trade and is just blatantly unfair. If you bring through players you either have to let them go and strengthen a club who aren't as capable at bringing through their own players or release a longer established player. What incentive is there for other clubs to invest in youth policies? With the speed of the game now, you need more players not fewer. If clubs like Castleford (who wanted a £1.3m cap) can't compete then tough.

How exactly are you meant to budget to spend 50% of your income when you don't know what your income will be? Before last season, we had been in a final for 5 successive years. Last year, we were so crippled by injuries that we needed 34 players, yet we can only pay 20 players any sort of wage for doing the job. As a result, we finish 7th. You are also open to luck of the draw. In the cup, we got home agames against Whitehaven and UTC. A home draw against a SL side would've given us enough extra income to reduce the 52.3% spend to under 52% and just collect a fine. An inflationary rise in the cap would've seen us ok too.

The 0.3% overspend is the same as the small company I work for pays an I.T. man to spend an hour a week in our office.

Professional sport? It's run by amateurs.

You mean 'we WERE' for a start.

Our income is relevant to this. For £80,000 to represent an overspend of 2.3% then the following figures (rounded) apply to our accounts last season.

Income must've been - £3,478,010.
50% allowable spend - £1,739,005.
Amount spent (52.3%) - £1,819,130.

Amount we could've spent without losing points (52%) - £1,808,565

Income required to spend £1,819,130 (and just be fined) £3,498,325. Therefore, an income of just an extra £20,225 would've seen us ok. Therefore, something as simple as drawing a team with an away following instead of UTC in the cup would've seen us keep our points.
