Stupidity

Post by MrsLam »

Didnt really ruin the night but did put a bad ending to it.
What the hell are the stewards playing at? Im not saying it was right that that lad ended up throwing a few punches but I can see where hes coming from. There was absolutely no need to treat the drummer boy like a criminal, he was being a fan and im absolutely disgusted with how they treat our fans. Its most likely that now the stewards will say, "see that was a fire hazard, it was proved when everyone was pushed down the stairs" but there wouldnt have been any one pushed if the fans had been left alone and allowed to support their team.
They're absolutely pathetic.

For those of us who couldn't go because of work (and I'm very happy even though I only saw 20 minutes of the game on TV!), what happened? I know things always get a bit squeezed when everyone's leaving but I'm a bit concerned that anything should mar our great victory tonight.

Bring on the Bulls next week, then the Whinos the week after at OT.

Marring the victory on the pitch I thought were a few defensive frailties, Faz's knee can't be good all the attention he was getting, Hock doesn't seem to tackle just shoulder barge.

Marring the victory off the pitch, several cars were broken into on the car park near the Soccerdome and some silly little Scouser was chanting Saints songs at me before the game and proceeded to swear and spit in my general direction.

Which stand are we talking here?

I know last week there was a complaint from some Wire fans in the East stand ahout steward behaviour that, if what they said was true, was simply common assault.

I am in the East, stayed (as I always do) to the end to clap the team and was in the crush to get out but did not notice anything.

Normally I am not too fond of drummers but the one in the east tonight was well on the ball I thought.

If there are any heavy handed tactics the stewards have got be very careful. They may think they are a law unto themselves but they are not.

It was before the game when I was waiting for friends near the ticket office. It didn't particularly bother me but I know some people would take offence at being sworn at and letters have been written in to League Express mentioning such instances. It's just a small minority of wannabe hard knock fans, I'm sure there are one or two Wigan ones too.

Dear Mrs Lam...... what incident are you talking about? I was in the East Stand (of course) with my young un and old man.... right near to the drummer and bugler(I think it was a bugle he was blowin) and stayed till the very end.... and like others didnt see or hear any problem on leaving after the match...... several obnoxious stinks were pushing and swearing at the bar just before half time...but you have to make allowances for mentally ill people......... who are green with jealousy at us warriors lads n lasses

The drummer boy and his group did what they did last week and harmlessly walked down the stairs singing and shouting and getting a drum at the front and his mate at the back would have made the atmosphere even better. However the stewards decided that this was a fire hazard, or against health and safety or would generate an atmosphere and decided to push all the lads back up the stairs which in my opinion really is a fire hazard, DUH. Then drummer boy wouldnt sit down to drum (sit down with banging a drum thats half the width of him?!) So he was escorted out still banging his drum :D!
Then all the lads on the stairs were pushed down by the lads at the back of the queue and the two lads at the front somehow managed to get the blame for this. Sorry but how the hell were they meant to move back when their were at least another 40 odd lads standing behind them. Obviously this must have really annoyed the lads when the stewards were grabbing hold, pushing and generally squashing them and by this time everyone had fallen down the stairs and punches were being thrown.
Anyway...theres the full story from an eye witness!

I know....this is getting really stupid now! The guy with the drum, bless him, really does work hard go get the crowd singing week in week out without fail. He even thumps that drum going into the supporters bar after the match such is his devotion.
Anyway, at the Warrington match and Saints match he has walked down the steps thumping the drum getting everyone in the South Stand to sing rather than those just at the back. He gets to the front to walk around with the drum, and god forbid he should leave his seat....what the hell did they think he was going to do, form a one man pitch invasion belting the drum all over the stadium????
The stewards threw him out at the Hull match as well (at least I think it was that match). They are clearly not enforcers of health and safety, but are ensuring nobody has fun, there's a crap atmosphere and all the rest.
Couldn't agree with you more Mrs Lam, these stewards are just petty, pathetic and kill joys!

I was the lad who started throwing punches. As you said we where just trying to get a better atmosphere going and supporting are team but then the stewards all stopped us and told us to go back up and with me being at the front their was no way i could get back up. Then everyone from the back pushed down n i fell into the stewards. One steward then grabbed me and threw a punch so thats when i started going for him and then all stewards came in and dragged me down and then threw me onto the pitch and then took me out.
