Barrett on saturday.

I really like Barrett and think he is a world class player but on saturday i don't think he pulled his weight.
Everyone has been going on about the nice open spaces of the millenium stadium and how it will fit nicely with the way he plays. I never saw anything of him for the first 50 mins!
He can't do it all on his own and when the team do create something he plays on that and has a good ball game.
It makes you wonder though, he's supposed to be 'the answer' when we play against the 'lower' teams but when we are playing up there with the top teams and you don't see anything of him for the majority of the game, is he really as good as everybody makes out he is?

I think class will always make its way to the top, whatever the circumstance. It is difficult as a half back to play behind a mediocre pack, especially when you carry such large expectations. In the second half Barrett came into his own. I have only just got back from Cardiff and so have not had the benefit of watching a replay, but there were some touches worthy of the enterace fee on their own. There was a passing move in the second half instgated by Barrett and carried on by him that was truly instictive. I was sat directly behind it and it was inspiring enough to get me on my feet (even in my drunken stupor). Against the top sides he needs everybody to contribute to the max. Unfortunately on Saturday alot of the players lacked conviction and Wigan as a result got soundly beaten

Laura halfbacks need possession and they need field position. The reason you felt Trent went missing for 50 minutes was because he was provided with neither until it was too late. Had Trent been wearing the Red V they would have put 70 on us.
If our pack provide a platform, Trent shines.

Hit the nail on the head.
I was away on holiday last season when the announcement Logan was leaving was made. I came back and given our dubious form expecting some bad news but when I found that bit of news out I was stunned.
It really was the worst bit of news regarding players I heard all season. It wasn't being discussed that much and his eventual departure all seemed a bit low-key. I could not understand it.
I found it equally odd that the club did not move to replace him with another equally experienced prop in the off season.
When we come up against a side like Saints we see what a big mistake that was. Prescott and O'Carroll should be sharing the fourth prop slot, not the third.
Against lesser teams they do OK but against class the pack can't hack it especially with Fielden off form and Feka being a bit if a "luxery prop".
So when we come up against a big pack Barrett has no platform.
Criticisingly Barrett for the Saints game it a bit like criticising Calders for not matching his Leeds try scoring rate without taking into account the centres he had at Leeds.
I only hope we can provide a decent pack for Barrett in 2008 and 2009 because if we don't, what a waste!

CPWigan you have said exactly what i had to say. He does have a lot to live up to. But then again so does Fielden. None of the players at a higher level seem to be playing to there full potential. Barrett has been outstanding. He shon with his step again on Saturday. He is World Class. If our props got into the oppositions faces then dont you think they would be tired and not lay a finger on our half backs. Obviously this isnt the case.

I think your right bear our props need to be more in other teams faces cos if feka got in your face would you touch barrett or leuluai?

Barrett or any other half-back finds it difficult to play with a beaten pack. If the pack is not laying the platform, which it wasn't against St.Helens then the halves cannot get the job done effectively or at all. Barrett created the try for Goulding, he played a lot better than what he did on good friday.

I think its fairly obvious that it is O'Loughlin's fault.
