Crusaders had a farcical double movement try given before half time.

Gareth Hewer (the official) isn't doing too badly, couple of mistakes but has been consistent (spelling?) on high/grappler tackles.

Ballard still moving when he first hit the ground... still moving means tackle isn't complete.

Poor effort despite being an ex player (I believe). Did Ray Tennant have the 'trots' He was not hanging around video referee wise.

He's a no nonsense sort of guy, I reckon he was trying to prove a point to the grade 1s that you don't need to see a million angles before making a decision. However, Dalle-Court's try is a good reason why several replays are good - had he watched it more time he may have noticed Ford being dragged away from the tackle by the Celtic 5.

It was a double movement. Sheez you worry me Rob He was tackled, his arm (elbow) hit the deck. he then made a second movement whereby he raised his arm and went again. Classic double movement.

BTW - Barry Mac knows the rules better than Clarke. He also correctly got that when the referee calls held, a player can then go in touch and not been penalised. He simply recovers his position and plays the ball. Something Clarke did not know.

I was not impressed by Clarke

I thought Tennant should have looked more closely at that possible try from a kick through.

If it's any consolation Tennant was no great shakes as a referee. Holdsworth was the best from that era.

When his elbow first hit the deck he had forward movement so tackle wasn't complete. Not remember the 'Quins versus Catalans match where McLinden (I think) released the ball whilst sliding for touch with his ball carrying arm on the floor - try resulted from the released ball.

I don't recall what Clarke said... was he not suggesting it should have been a penalty? I think in SL it would have been a penalty... tacklers should have stopped pushing.

One decision I disagreed with was early on in the game when he penalised Oldham for not clearing the ruck when the Celtic player didn't even attempt to regain his feet to PTB.

Rob, if he still had forward movement he must have been coated in KYJ If he had not made a second movement, the ball would not have reached the line. Given he was still tackled, his ball carrying elbow had hit the ground then the tackle is complete. Oh BTW, the pass looked dodgy too

Clarke did not know why a scrum was not awarded. He also annoyed me with his rambling re a scrum penalty when Hewer shouted 3 times to Roberts to pack down and he did not so Hewer gave the penalty.

To be fair it looks much harder in some respects to referee lower divisions. You could award penalties all night for tackling around the neck. Players seem much less disciplined.

As he hits the deck the first time he continues to move forward - tackle not complete. If the tackles not complete the next movement can't be a double movement.

It's a lot messier around the ruck, however, that takes me to another point which I shall raise in a separate thread.
