Thats Colbon gone then

Hodgson is like an old carthorse. Not happy with another old Aussie, Its strangling the British game.
Why he only signed a new contract 2 weeks ago . Even though its a strong rumor at this stage thats all it is many conflicting stories at the moment .

Where is he going to play? So IMO no point in having him on the salary cap.

Contracts nowadays dont meen a thing. And if Hodgeson has signed he certainly wont be a fans fave.As he is too injury prone :( hes had more time off than John Wayne's safety catch.
We were very lucky with injuries this year and I can see Colbon as a very useful squad member which next year we may well need , he came in and did well he needs to kick on from last year , sure he will get the chances and when he does he must take it .

If he is that good then he will force his way in so no worries, just as young talents like Faz Robinson and Betts did we always strengthened the team and often these lads had more than one player in front of them , in the age of the cap his position is easier than the one they faced .
If we made only one signing and it was Hodgson then I would agree as a prop is a must but as a squad we need 3 or 4 players pluss the young lads being brought in slowly just have to wait and see I guess.

Watched him play for a while 2 years ago was the best linking fullback in the NRL and as always been rated above Webb (leeds) who as done ok in his first year. Poor players rarely play origin , the fact that he may not have been signed makes this hypothetical anyway .

I just feel what else does he need to do, His form and moving Richards to fullback co-incided with Wigans brilliant end of season form.

Colbon doesnt need to proove to anybody how good he is.He just is.

We dont need a fullback its as simple as that.Hodgeson will be over payed and he will strangle the local talent out of the side e.g Colbon
Hodgson is a better full back than Richards and Richards is a better winger than Colbon and Richards is also a better winger than he is a full back.

So signing Hodgson will improve the side. The only down-side is he is an overseas player but don't forget if it were not for Ashton taking the union shilling then Colbon would not have had a look in anyway.

Colbon will be a regular bench player IMO as will get his chances. If he is as good as you say he is then he will keep Richards out of the side the way Richards kept Dallas out at the end of last season.

If Hodgson does not come and Colbon is guaranteed a start as a result then who is to say he won't get complacent? We need a greater squad depth and we need competition for places. Full back is a key position and while Richards filled in there OK he scored more tries when out on the wing.

People have been crying out for Hodgeson and IMO hes not a good player.More like your poor mans Brisco people will find out what hes like when he signes. If you have Setanta you will know what im talking about.
You don't get to play for NSW if you're that poor!

You meen DID play for NSW.
Last year, in all 3 games: hardly ancient history. And he's only 29.

Because hes not good enough anymore. If its a toss up between having Colbon in the side and Hodgeson im afraid its going to be the local lad everytime.
He's probably the third or fourth best fullback in world RL, behind Minichiello & Hunt (neither of whom are available, sadly) and possibly Brett Stewart.

Colbon is good, and has loads of potential, but to suggest that he's a better winger than Richards or Calderwood is just silly.

DaveO summed it up well (and it's not often I agree with him!); Richards, though he did an excellent job as stand-in fb, is much better on the wing. We need a specialist fullback.

Well lets put it this way were going for an old has been injury prone Aussie (yet again) and Hull are going for Steve Matai i know who i would be going for. :conf:
He is around the same age as Barrett when we signed him , for an over the hill injury prone Aussie hes not done so bad and over the years Barrett as missed more game time through injury in NRL than Hodgson .
Richards moving to full back last season did make us a better team , he was much better defensively ,positionally , faultless under the high kick and even though not spectacular brought the ball back straight and safe , we did lose out offensively he was having a great season out wide even though Barrett claimed the headlines Richards kicking and all round game won us just as many games .
Its all about opinions mine is that Hodgeson at fullback Richards on the wing with Colbon as back up is stronger than Richards at full back Colbon on the wing with some untried kid as back up but like I said thats just my opinion .
